Things I would like to see fixed

PostMon Jul 22, 2013 12:44 pm

Bob Buhl who is an S8* is pitching a shutout in the playoffs.
Then comes this sequence.

BOTTOM OF INNING 6
0 T.Fernandez 5-11 Fly Out (RF) b-0 fly(RF)x F9
1 S.Alomar 6-3 Fly Out (RF) b-0 bpSI 1-11 F9
2 D.McNally 3-7 Strike Out b-0 F9
TOP OF INNING 7
0 B.Buhl 4-6 Fly Out (CF) b-0 F9
1 B.Roberts 2-3 Ground Out (2B) b-0 F9
2 C.Utley 6-4 Foul Out (C) b-0 catch-x F9
BOTTOM OF INNING 7
SUBSTITUTION at P: Don McMahon (role: Setup)
0 D.Erstad 4-10 Single (CF) b-1 bpSI 1-11 F9
0 1 V.Pinson 3-7 Ground Out (2B) Double Play 1-o b-0 F9
2 A.Pujols 4-7 Walk b-1 F9
2 1 A.Rodriguez 1-8 Single (LF) 1-2 b-1 F9
2 12 I.Rodriguez 3-9 Ground Out (2B) b-0 F9

As it turns out, McMahon actually completes the game and the shutout, so I guess I don't have a complaint. But I have no idea how these strategy decisions are made.
Why take Buhl out when he is pitching a shutout, just completed a 1-2-3 inning and is still at F9?
And if you are going to take Buhl out, why let him bat in the top of the inning?

If it matters, my relief usage is listed at normal.

I have decided I will never be able to figure out all the complexities of the bullpen strategy, so be it.
But when such basic decisions are made in such a strange way, you wonder how this game engine works.

Just to add to it, the version of Buhl I'm using is 2L, McMahon is 2R. So it makes even less sense to pull the starter when the first two hitters are lefties.

It is goofy.

I assume you have no inning limitation set on Buhl.

The part about first hitting in the top half of the inning, then being lifted to start the bottom half makes no logical sense - especially if you ever saw Bob Buhl bat in real life. His lifetime line was .089/.129/.091 - only 76 hits spread over 15 years (2 doubles, no triples, no HRs)!

What did Strat say about this? This stuff is why I almost never play non DH. The less decisions by Hal, the better. They need to get this kind of stupidity under control along with the two defensive moves at the same position in the same half inning like an earlier post showed.
