Great theme. I think both pre 1900 or post 2000 would be plenty strong teams by themselves. That leaves 13 teams including the much deserved Negro Leagues. As for them, allow them to grab a few relievers from the pool, then the divisions are shuffled...after. Something like this'll have to be good enough.

Still, that would be 13 teams. Perhaps combine years and have an older ball team, and a new 90's-today team?

Whatever you decide, I think you've got some interest.

I tried doing a NeL team with any African-American player for 80 mil and the bullpen makes it tough. You'd basically need to draft three of the four: cheap lee smith, grant jackson, al hollard, and reggie harris to get the required 3 RP only -- problem is those guys all give up a lot of ballpark Homeruns. Its doable, but i think you'd be restricted to a small ball ballpark to make this effective.

A 90s team looks tough to compile as well.

80s was no problem, same with 70s, 60s, and 50s. Havent tried the 40s prior yet... but am getting there.

I like that there is an 80 mil cap, becuase it forces you to dig deep on the players chosen.

Will get back soon with an update. Glad there is some interest.

Another solution is to do away with the NEL altogether....

Make the cap $90Mil and every team can add up to 2 NeL players per league...each time around...that way if you get a stinky team 2 NeL players can help to balance the luck of the draw....if you do $90 Million with no NeL and each season each team can draft up to 2 NeL players...1st season randomizer, after that reverse order based on previous season's W-L record...sign me up!

I've done an all-Negro Leagues team. (with some help from J. Rob, Tiant and J.R) Team worked great and can compete at 80 or higher caps because its really got some hitters, whatever team had the Negro Leagues would have some of the best.

As to relief pitching, allow some tasteful selections of guys available, and allow for the same on the bench.

So league standings then copy paste? I always mess this up :ugeek:

Ok, so think i have this figured out. Will split the 12 teams as follows:

1. NeL and any African-American pitcher, plus the ability to add any post-draft 3 rp-only pitchers under 1.2 million, african-american or otherwise. This accommodation is based on the difficulty of meeting the "3 rp-only" requirement.
2. All Players up to 1909
3. 1909-1917
4. 1918-1926
5. 1927-1935
6. 1936-1944
7. 1945-1953
8. 1954-1962
9. 1963-1971
10. 1972-1980
11. 1981-1989
12. 1990 and after

Also, if someone thinks these aren't quite an equitable split, im open to suggestions. Otherwise, let's go!

Once we have 12 committed, the team assignments will be picked at random.

What is the cap number you settled upon?

Also, I'm thinking the 1908 and earlier squad will also have pure RP problems; off the top of my head I cannot think of too many.

My first glance at pre 1909 relievers includes only Dummy Taylor, Harry Eels, Ralph Glaze, and Tex Pruett. ($.93-$1.76)
Not a deep nor impressive pen option, but prior to 1909 the starters were considered wimps if they did not finish what they started. It can be done.

The NeLers don't need the addition of other Afro-American pitchers. which might screw things up for the other decades if thery draft a crucial black starter. What the NeLers do need is at least one semi-decent reliever and two other RP-onlys who are assigned to them in advance, so no one else will draft them.

I'll sign up, but would like for this point to be straighened out before I do. Also, I would suggest upping the cap to at least $90 mil.

I was confused earlier...this is not a continual league for 12 seasons this is a one season league?

IF 3 owners want Babe Ruth, then 3 decades could battle over him? However, if I have the teens and draft Ruth I can ONLY use his 1916 pitcher card...i.e. if I draft a player from my era I CAN NOT switch his card to year outside of my era...correct? Not complaining...just trying to make sure I understand...

How are the decades/eras assigned? Randomly? A random number generator assigns draft positions and the decades are drafted prior to the draft? Unique stadiums? Stadium must be from the decade/era only? OPEN stadiums with no restrictions? I have no preference, just want to understand up front.

Lastly, I agree with bontomn about the $90million...If the league goes to a $90M cap and has a DH then count me in.
