Question about the 5 man non * starting staff w/ B. Adams

PostFri Jul 26, 2013 10:23 am

OK, so I have 6 non * SP/RPs and 3 pure RPs. One of the SP/RPs is B. Adams. If I don't set a starting rotation, and I want B. Adams to get in a lot of relief appearances, what will HAL do? My sixth SP/RP is Bennett (9L), whom I only want to spot start against a couple of lefty heavy teams/parks. I also have M. Rivera as one of my pure RPs. Will HAL start Bennett every 5th slot, or will he skip him and jump back up to Adams, even if Adams put in a relief appearance the game before? As it stands right now, I'm thinking of having Rivera as my closer, with Adams filling every other RP spot. I'm hoping the other two pure relievers make as few appearances as possible.

I would expect if Adams starts every 5th day that Hal should not ever consider him for a relief role until all other relievers have made an appearance.

Set your default rotation without Adams, he will relieve often. Then, every day select your daily starters. That way you can put Adams in to start. Don't worry if he relieved the day before, he will still came in at F9. They haven't fixed that yet either.

I've done this, DO NOT set a rotation, pick your SPs on a nightly basis, it allows YOU the manager to properly use Babe , doesn't guarantee 350-400IP like some guys get but it keeps HAL from totally screwing up the impact Babe has for you.

Matter of fact I never set a rotation anymore, it just doesn't seem to make as much sense and it takes a little fun out of the game IMO.

If you don't set a default rotation, Hal uses the top four (or five in this case) salaried starters less in relief. Hal assumes the top salaried guys will be starting and uses them last. Adams usually is one of the top salaried guys on a team and Hal likes saving him for starts. Also, always pick your starters on a nightly basis ignoring your default starters settings.

Guess I need to pay more attention. I assumed Hal would tag Adams with a fatigue penalty for his relief games after starts since that I seemed to remember that being the rule. Oh well, life as usual in online strat.
