Bunting for a hit....

PostFri Jul 12, 2013 3:17 pm

In Team Strategy, Bunting is set to "Extra Conservative"
In Hitter Prefs, every hitter is set to "Don't Sac Bunt"

Yet still at least 1-2 times a series I have a hitter attempt to bunt for hit with no one on base.

Is there something I am missing? Or do others have a similar problem?

not sure there is a conflict - if yourplayers are bunting for a hit, they are not violating/ignoring your 'don't sacrifice' setting (semantically anyway)

'Extra Convervative' also does not seem to be violated by "1-2 times a season" 1-2 times seems pretty, if not 'extra' conservative to me anyway.

I'm also wondering about HAL's bunt for hit decision. I wouldn't mind if it was a successful way to get a runner on first, but it seems to be successful only 20% of the time or less based on mental experience. Does anyone know the true odds of getting a bunt single?
It's a great strategy for Frank Taveras facing Pete Alexander, but it usually ends up being Eddie Collins or Ty Cobb throwing away a plate appearance against Jim Mooney.
