I don't want to give away too many trade secrets, but let me assure you the Cowboys' pitching "success" had nothing to do with throwing out random pitchers. (I did end up 8th in the league in ERA, so it wasn't that great of success, but good enough to secure the best regular-season record given a potent lineup of sluggers.)
- None of my pitchers had more than 2 ballpark homers on their card (adding righties and lefties together) except Gorzelanny, my mopup man. He had three. A necessity for pitching success at Great American.
- Jaime Garcia's 15 starts were all against 5 of my 11 opponents. Nothing random about that.
- Here is the percentage of right-handed hitters each of my right-handed starters faced:
Westbrook (2R): 61%
Harang (2R): 60%
Medlen (E): 52%
Hudson (1L): 50%
Zambrano (1L): 49%
Again, nothing random about that, either.
With Sarge's lineup, if he can finish 8th in pitching, I imagine he'll do quite well. I think it will be a challenge for him to get there with the pitchers that are left in the pool.
