Not a pinch hitter. Not an injury. It appears to be defensive substitutions. Hebner for Suttles makes sense. Torres and Weis do not.

I agree looks like three defensive subs were inserted.

Is Bonds checked to be removed for a defensive sub or under team strategy, defensive subs, do you have a left field defensive sub set?

Defensive substitutions/double switch situation.

It looks like Bonds was replaced in the top of the 8th by Torres in LF, and Hebner, who replaced Suttles @ 1st, was slotted in his place in the lineup. Do you have Bonds marked for def. replacement with a lead (you were up 4-3 at the time)?

According to the box score Hebner did not pinch hit for Bonds.

Hebner entered as a defensive replacement for Suttles. If you are using the 77 Hebner that makes sense subbing a 4 for a 3 at first.

Removing Ozzie Smith for Weiss defensively I find a bit dubious. Maybe Hal has something about backflip showboating.

Bonds was removed defensively for Rusty Torres. If you had the 2001 Bonds that improves your arm from +1 to -1 but increases your error rating from 7 to 15. Not sure how Hal calculates arm contribution but apparently Hal considers that an improvement in fielding. I do not. If this happens very often I would get Rusty Torres off my team.

I think this boxscore should be sent to Strato for analysis and explanation. Looks like bad defensive replacement logic to me.

No, I don't have bonds set for a defensive, sub, but I understand what you are saying.

I'll send it to strat and see what they say.

Thanks for all the help.

I have been experiencing the same sort of defensive subs by HAL. As a practice I rarely indicate defensive subs in my team strategy. They seem to happen as part of a double switch, or when a single player is lifted for a defensive sub (indicated in team strategy page), then HAL starts making other changes. Most of the time they don't make sense. Recent examples involve removing Ichiro for Shano Collins in RF in a close game, and removing Torriente for Wild Bill Wright in RF. Throwing arms seem to be ignored.

I contacted SOM by email on the morning of the 25th and have received no response or acknowledgement.

Let me know what they say. I am interested. I'll do the same.
