Best ballpark for this strategy?

PostMon Jul 29, 2013 11:32 am

I'm thinking of trying something a little different from previous teams, and I know it's really important to choose a ballpark tailored to your team (but then, you have to enter your park before you can draft).

So my strategy etc - for starters, ATG7 league, 80M, no DH. I am planning on allocating about 30M to grab three top starters (I'm in a league where the first place team has spent about 40M on 4 aces, but I'm not willing to carry it that far). Then for the rest of my team, I'm looking at getting a lot of base stealers (driving me insane in my league how a team that I believe I am superior to talent wise is leading the division by 5 games over me employing a steal as many bases as I can strategy).

So for the combination - 3 ace starters / line up full of speed threats (sacrificing power), what would be the best park for a team like this?

Also, if you have any 'strategies' that you'd care to share, I'd be interested (also, noting the park would be a help).

Thanks!

You could potentially tailor this a bit if you knew which base stealers you wanted (righty vs lefty), but I see most managers with this type of strategy going with Forbes '57 (17,17,1,1) with the BP singles helping those runners to get on base.

I have also had some good results with a similar strategy in Griffith '41 (7,7,0,0) but also had a defense and OBP focus for those teams.

There are many good stadium options for this kind of team, but mostly variations with low BPHR, and then select the number of BP singles that fits your taste and perhaps handedness.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. I also looked at Royals '30 and I believe League Park '11.

Could you post a link to your team that employed a similar strategy - maybe I'd get a few pointers / ideas on who to draft.

Thanks!

PS I've been playing in Forbes '57 - it definitely isn't a HR friendly park, but I've got league leaders in 2b and 3b there.

I have to go way back to find a team of mine that was trying to steal much.

Here is a link to one of my old favorites from ATG4

here is a more recent (ATG6) squad built mostly on defense that came back from a bad start to win it all as a wildcard after some adjustments-

This team was from last years Barnstormers (not so much looking for SB)

.....now that you raised the topic, I may have to try for a SB centric squad to see what I can do with them.

(FWIW I'm surprised you aren't getting any other responses....the boards were much more active 2+ years ago)

hackra, interesting SP make up on that ATG6 championship team, with Maddux and Babe and Pedro and a bunch of cheaper guys, especially seeing Babe pitched only 100 innings. Did you pick him up half way through season?

...and damn that Barnstromer team finished on an amazing run, what 26-2?

Koufax and Moret were traded out for Babe Adams and Sheriff Blake after game 92. The team came back to tie for the division (but got the wildcard spot) on that ATG 6 team.

and yes that was a huge end of season Barnstormers run
