EXTRA conservative

PostMon Aug 05, 2013 11:24 pm

First inning, first game, new season
Team strategy on bunts Extra conservative
Joe Morgan reaches first
and Jim Fregosi bunts him over.
What a stupid strategy.
What does extra conservative mean?

I always go to Hitter Preferences and under Sac Bunt I check off "Don't"on all the hitters I don't want bunting. That will cover you both ways.

I went ahead and did that, but it is not that great a solution. I can visualize a situation where maybe I would want Fregosi to bunt. But bunting the leadoff man over in the top of the first clearly isn't one of them. It would seem that such a transparently dumb move would be covered by Extra Conservative, but unfortunately it is not.

That is one of the many strategy areas that is screaming for more situational options. I typically use extra conservative on bunting and H&R, but will have a cheap defensive player who can do both but can't hit checked to do both more.

What I want is the option to specify normal bunting in late-game one-run situations.

I also want a check-off option to never ever under any circumstances attempt to steal 3rd base...
