cheap SPs for lefty parks

PostWed Aug 07, 2013 10:30 pm

Anybody had any luck with these guys in lefty stadiums: Conley, Trowbridge, Haddix (the 2.7 version), Larsen, any of the cheap Pollets. Fiddling around with a five-man rotation, trying to keep the $ under 15 mil. Thanks for any advice.

these assume you mean way left like rhb power rating is 5 or less?5 for 15 will be tough but kaat, mathis, mizell, walker non*sp, sadecki, rooker, splittorff, lemaster, haddix but he usually disappoints, speer, ross, weilman and gibbon.. I try to put 3 *sps with 2 cheap no sps. cost about the same. also you need a good pen with a sutter, murray type.

It's Dunn and $80. I've got Splitorff, Bennett, Weilman, Ross, and Speer. Pretty damn cheap. Radatz, McMahon, and Garrelts in the pen, so hopefully that will be a strength.

Lineup:
Lf Weintraub / S. Collins
DH Gates Brown / Clines
3b Brett
1b McCovey
RF Klein
CF Snider
C Dickey
SS Templeton
2b Richardson

I thought it would be fun to let the offense rip and see what happens. But maybe I should replace Klein with a better defensive RF (Flick?) and use the 2 mil to upgrade pitching. Any thoughts?

I've had some success with the cheap Storm Davis and Mickey Harris. When I say success, I mean their ERA's hover around the 5.00 mark and they keep you in the game.

Frank Bertaina is worth considering. I also have had success with McGrane. I would recommend a super-reliever (at least R3) to soak up innings. But with this approach, as others suggest, you need to expect a team ERA over 5.00 and need to score a LOT of runs to win, IMHO, so I'd feature hitting over fielding on the offensive side.

I echo the previous sentiments...your pen decisions are almost as important as your rotation choices!

if you want to go with a $15M rotation, you still need a PREMIUM Super Reliever R3+...DON'T CUT CORNERS ON THIS GUY!

Murray...Sutter...Schultz...Regan are the cream of the crop for a Lefty park like Dunn.

Willie...Orosco...Marshall....Tug...if you have too (usually available POST waivers)

My experience is that a cheapy rotation without a PREMIUM super reliever is a recipe for a .500 team regardless of your choices for the rotation, cuz your pen is going to pitch a minimum of 400 innings....A good super reliever should give you 200 to 250 innings of 3.50ish ERA....win 15 to 20 games plus saving another 30 games in a $80M league.

I've gone against the grain in Dunn, looking at it as a lefty leaning pitchers park. A little LH power and a lot of OBP and defense.
