Has Anyone Had Success Starting a 4 in RF

PostMon Aug 12, 2013 6:01 pm

I've tried a 4 in LF once (Kiner) and it was ok...I've used a 3 in RF a little (Thompson), but never a 4...Anyone?

Thanks.

Would it make any difference if the 4 is in left or in right instead? Balls hit to left or right have a equal chance of fbX. Is there something I'm missing?

I suspect one could create a team that could be successful with a 4 anywhere, including SS, if he hit enough for his card price. I'm not crazy enough to try, but I suspect guys have gotten away with playing Kiner in LF and that is conceptually not much different than using Chuck Klein or the cheap Reggie cards in RF. I went through a phase where I repeatedly used Combs' 1(+3) card in CF with good success, but I haven't tried that in a while.

Teams that won titles.

LF was Stargell and RF was a platoon between Walls who is a 3 vs lefties and Singleton vs righties.
LF was Luzinski and RF was a platoon between Brouhard and Shamsky

Teams that lost in the finals
I had a couple with Jackson in right. One with a Gamble/Brouhard platoon. One with Weintraub platooning in right and one with Frank Howard in right.

I have always been real allergic to 4 fielders anywhere. But considering real life teams won with some of these guys in the field one has to assume it is possible. I suspect it is easier to win with such fielders at lower caps because at higher caps there are so many options where the card provides both offense and good defense. If your opponent is matching your offense but also getting defense that feels like you are the loser.

I am going to reconsider for a future team though.
