POLL: 3 way tie rules

Moderator: Palmtana

What should be the rules regarding 3 way ties?

A. The team with the best head to head record wins the wildcard.

55%
B. The rules as they are, shouldn't change. The best record within division should win the wildcard.

"Just curious but how can you decide a 3 way tie w/ head to head ?"

My team was 7-5 against 1 team and 8-4 against the other.

Very simple...

My team, RBI'd for her Pleasure just finished the season in a 3 way tie for the W/C.

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/le ... ead/346694

I'm tied with MASH 4077 who I was 7-5 against and Broken Arrow who I was 8-4 against.

I SAY BASED UPON MY RECORD AGAINST BOTH TEAMS MY TEAM SHOULD BE IN THE POST SEASON.

FROM THE RULES:
Tiebreakers for a 2-way tie are, in order:
- Head-to-head record
- Run differential
- Coin flip
Tiebreakers for a 3-way tie are, in order:
- Best record vs. teams within division
- Run differential
- Coin flip

Strat says they "follow" MLB rules in the event of ties. I say "follow" because MLB uses a 3 team 2 game elimination playoff. And we don't use that rule here.

I say head to head record should be the #1 thing if there are 3 way ties and NOT best record vs. teams within division.

Combined Head-to -Head records. Don't understand why this is not the first tiebreaker.
Rbis for her 15-9
Broken Arrow 11-13
Mash 10-14

Head to head records are not the tiebreaker with out of division team three way ties, because the programmer can't assume you will have an equal number of games with each opponent in a three way tie--in this case you did, but it can't be assumed in the program code as some teams play only 9 games with each other.

The rules are stated and you know them going in whether you think it fair or not.

The team with the best run differential usually is the better team, as opposed to head to head in my opinion. Though I agree Head-to Head is the traditional way to do tiebreakers, and the way I would prefer if out of division scheduled were balanced.

I'm not trying to pick sides, just saying why the rules are the way they are from a programming perspective.

There was a four way tie in this league--the team with the +61 run differential lost to a team with a +24 run differential because this was a head to head tiebreaker, that team has just as much right to be upset.

So without being confrontational what I think you're saying is that the rules should be made to cover this particular situation not all situations.......In the NFL a 2 team tiebreaker for the wildcard is head to head, a 3 team is best conference record. It's probably what strat was going for when they decided on division records.

This makes ZERO sense to me though.

With a 2 team tie, head to head is the PRIMARY deciding factor.
With a 3 team tie, it's the division record.

Why, if I'm tied with 2 other teams for the Wildcard, should I NOT make the post season, if I was better head to head against the 2 other teams?

Maybe I'm missing the point here. But what's the division record got to do with my situation. If there was a 3 team tie and we were all .500 against each other, THEN we could go to division records.

Can someone shed some light here? And because it's a Strat rule or MLB rule and has been for a long time, is NOT an answer.

Who said there has to be an equal number of games? Best winning percentage combined head-to-head between all tied teams makes sense to me. The example shown above -well the guy got swept in the final series plus got routed head-to-head by playoff team.

the NFL there is probably a very slim possibility head-to-head for 3 teams matters. With SOM online we know there are games played

I'm not picking a side either. However Miller. Randall, as Knerrpool did earlier, brings up some good points here.
The unbalanced division schedule would make it difficult for HAL to be fair to the one or two members of the three-way-tie who played less head-to-head games against the other members or member of the three-way-tie.

That being said, I can sympathize with Visick's frustration.

I'm kinda amazed that 7 people voted against me.

When you are in my situation and your team has a better head to head record vs. 2 other teams for the wildcard, lemme know how you feel...
