Thanks Joe for the incredible analysis. This stuff is fascinating!

Joe - your spreadsheet takes into account ballparks - but does it also try to anlayze the lefty-righty and balance factors for a team's opposition? Just curious. By my calculations, my hitters have a slight but noticeable preference for RHP at Yankee stadium, but less of a preference at National, and almost E even at smaller parks. My hitters have faced about 31% lefty pitchers thus far - a little more than the norm of (I think) around 25%. I haven't tried to review yet what the L-R split is at home versus other ballparks.

I'll try to share my calcs sometime in September. I've done them for my division only so far, and only in a very rough form. I can't do much next week, but maybe the week after.

Yeah, probably, BUT, remember that the comparison only means that you are relatively where you should be in relation to the other teams in the league. You could still be underperforming, just not so much that it moves you below your relative place. I feel the same way about my team, but the ratings are very close. The other thing is that the runs scored are very close so it's hard to really tell at this point. It may become more obvious as the season goes on and things, theoretically, spread out more.

Seems like there are a lot of hitters who are low so, as I said in an earlier post, maybe the pitching is just that good in the league.

GB, I use a 70/30 split for the purposes of these ratings. I think our division is pretty close to that. The East is heavier on LHSP (except for DJ) I don't take the time to balance for each team. Since DJ is much better v LHP, I would say being in the East helps him. The Central is probably a little below 30%.

One interesting thing that I've noticed: I have only 3 clutch hits/outs. I think I have a very good clutch team, but we just haven't rolled any.

By comparison
Big A 11
GB 8
Hawk 12
Stoney 8
Big M 8
DJ 13
Semper 12
AT 17
Corky 4
Jeep 18 (!)
Keyx 13

Thanks Joe. I'm super busy right now, just before travelling, but later on I'd like to compare what I'm doing with what you do. I'll publish stuff, but right now it's just bits and pieces as I thought of things that I wanted to check. I'll try to do my calcs league wide in September.

Re the clutch hit rolls (or lack thereof) - that's the crazy thing - the dice keep you guessing all the time! At least now at the strat site we have stats on that, and a lot of other interesting things! :)

GB, looking forward to seeing what you got. Anyone else got somethign to share? That's what makes it interesting!

One other thing to keep in mind. Teams in pitchers parks seem to rate lower. I believe this is because of the abundance of bphrs that jack up the hitters more than they hurt the pitchers. That's why the park comparison (which I posted first and will post below) becomes important.

Code: Select all
Team   Advantage   Div   Overall
stoney   15   E   2
DJ   14   E   1
Big M   11   E   5
JTJ   9   W   4
Jeep   5   C   3
big A   2   W   8
GBrook   1   W   7
Corky..   -3   C   6
Keyzick   -5   C   9
Semper   -11   E   11
Hawk   -16   W   10
At   -22   C   12

As you can see, Big M moves up, Jeep moves down, Big A moves up. Corky moves down.

Heck no. I can't figure this game out for the life of me. I do well in ATG but this 2012 season is like Chinese to me. Some players are just impossibly underperforming....to the point I think pitchers would hit better. Kind of ridiculous....

Hey guys, I'm just back from a 3 week vacation on a remote Scottish Island. Internet was unreliable, so sorry I haven't chimed in yet!

Thanks for the ratings Joe. What I like best about them is that they get people talking. 8-)

I'm pleased that my squad has rated fairly well this time around, although usually that's the kiss of death for me! Seriously though, I agree that the East is a beast. DJ has dominated the division head to head (21-6), which doesn't bode well for the rest of us. Ditto for BigA in the West (sorry Joe!).

Also notice that the Central has no teams with a + run diff. The other 2 divisions have 3 each. Bound to change though...

And Corky, I agree with you that this card set is a tough nut to crack. But you can't compare to ATG, which is easy on account of the vast size of the set. Pretty tough to have a really bad ATG team. ;)

Welcome back Bigmahon, that sounds like a really nice vacation!

I wasn't really comparing this set to ATG, I know this is a different beast. I was just venting at how awful some guys have been...it happens in ATG too but not to this extent.

Don't forget that everyone has the same advantage in ATG and the pitching is much better also which makes the lack of offense here a mystery to me still.

BTW- I've had my share of lousy ATG teams, just not lately. :D
