Draft order - '60s

PostSat Aug 24, 2013 7:47 am

Just wondering - does anyone know if the draft order is generated randomly when the league is full, or is it in the order as the teams appear in the list as the league forms? I assume it's random, but maybe not?

Take a look at the above draft - and it was AFTER I asked the question, so I'm just congratulating the "Absolutely Free April 67" team. One nice piece of work, if you ask me. Any pitching at all should carry them pretty well, huh? And I went too heavy on the pitching, with Koufax, Gibson, Seaver and Lary......but what the heck! It's a game, right?

The dearth of shortstops is amazing in the '60's, huh?

Good luck. It is just a game, but I find it fun. We are about a third of the way through our 60s season and I am surprised how many 8-9 mil and above players end up back on waivers because they can't hit a left-handed pitcher. I've seen several high dollar hitters, hitting low .200 or below because they can't hit a lefty. There are some of them that can't hit right-handers. I have a hard time platooning an 8 mil dollar or more player.

Absolutely Free's draft doesn't look right to me. He got Mays, Aaron and Maris in the draft. It is a 100 mil league so there isn't any point in saving salary. For this to happen means something unusual happened, for example, assuming his draft card was: Mays, Aaron, Maris - it means that no one picked Aaron with their #1 pick, and no one picked Maris with their #1 or #2 pick. If another team had Mays and Aaron listed #1 and #2, is it possible for Absolutely Free to end up with both players?

I think his pitching will be killed. I haven't noticed too many pitchers that cheap doing well and he needs at least 3 to be at least 4.50 ERA or better.

Thanks for the comment, LM. I would tend to agree.....we're looking at a lot of 25-19 scores, right? I picked a "halfway" stadium - Busch - after dealing with Fenway ina league I'm playing now. Too drastic on the offense. But.......I'm hoping to manufacture runs by stealing, a good lineup......just what good managing is all about. I'm just amazed that Aaron, Mays and Maris are in the same of! Two out of three good cards are big trouble. I've got Mays in my other league and he's unconscious. But....more power to him.

That team with Mays, Aaron, Maris, Morgan, May, Powell and Bando is pretty sweet. But I do find it odd that he was able to get both Mays and Aaron. I guess no one tried to get Mays or Aaron with their first two choices.
