Morris vs Bosio

PostThu Aug 29, 2013 6:42 am

I will save some of my other unfairness rants for another day, but my gripe for now is how badly is Jack Morris done by in the 80's???

I'm sure I recall that Morris was the winningest pitcher in the 80's. And for statistics sakes we will put aside his legendary big game moments, but...
He had an actual 80's ERA of 3.66
His card for the 80's game has an average ERA of 3.89
If I were to rank his actual 80's seasons in ERA from best to worst (1 thru 10), the years selected for his 80's card are;
8th, 4th, 6th, 7th and 9.6* (by choosing a 90's season between 9th and 10th, closer to 10th). Really??

Compare to someone like Bosio
He had an actual 80's ERA of 3.93
His card for the 80's game has an average ERA of 3.68
Of course he didn't have enough 80's years outright so they reached into the 90's to pick some of his better remaining years.

They price Bosio at $6.48 and Morris at $5.52 (and his card is probably overpriced at that)

I love the mystery game and play these versions for that feature, but I also play these for the memories and Bosio and several of the others being better than Morris is not what I remember.

Goop point, Morris often does not get his due. Of course The Sporting News was responsible for the pricing of the 1980s and the choosing of the cards for that decade.
