The frenzy after waivers can be fun. But if you like that why not just choose a non-waiver league and enjoy a frenzy right from the start? Also, most of this discussion has been about the autodraft. Not sure what the frenzy after the autodraft has to do with whether the autodraft should be improved.

Geez, now you're just being dense. When I use "frenzy" I am referring to the period after waivers have cleared. Waivers are a good thing since they give some benefit to those who had a bad autodraft and are an interesting part of the online experience as well.

As I have said, the autodraft (as it is now) creates the best part of SOM online (I'll spell it out this time): the period after waivers have cleared when you try to "fix" your team.

Look, drafting is not "broken". The autodraft is working exactly as it was intended. Some people like the way the process plays out now, some don't. I am fine with it, just as I would be fine if it were more like the waiver draft. This is a good debate but remember that just because you don't like the autodraft doesn't mean it is broken and that everyone has to dislike it. I guess the answer would be for SOM to create an alternative draft system then let leagues be set up with either one. I'd rather see them do other things first, but that's just my opinion.

Except, if you're drafting at the bottom of a live draft, not only could you miss out on your most preferred player, you could miss out on your top 5-10 preferred players.

Extremely weak argument. If you pick last in a live draft you will miss your top 11 choices. But that is much preferably to getting a load of trash like Earl Combs when you requested Willie Mays. Seriously, the problem so many ignore is not that you do not get your desired player. It is that you get a useless player with your first pick of the draft. Come on. Everyone has to realize that is what the detractors of the autodraft are complaining about so why make this kind of silly argument?

Geez, now you're just being dense.

No, not being dense. Just suggesting in a friendly manner you might enjoy a full frenzy league. They used to be extremely popular.

Why be a jerk and insult people? Since you are not interested in a civil discussion I will just ignore your posts in the future.

As I have said, the autodraft (as it is now) creates the best part of SOM online (I'll spell it out this time): the period after waivers have cleared when you try to "fix" your team.

If the autodraft were not so pathetic you would not need that frenzy after waivers to "fix" your team. And that is irrelevant to whether the autodraft is a good system or not. This is like saying I love that period where I call in the second construction company so they can "fix" my house that the first construction company messed up.

Hey. Let's all voluntarily put a freeze on any unpleasantness. I'm moderator of this forum, but I'm not in charge of monitoring the forum for decorum. But I am asking everyone here to maybe "freeze" this thread for now - not officially by strat but on our own.

I'm not necessarily trying to shut down criticism or be a censor. I've suggested previously that maybe someone can post their suggestion for a "fix" on the forum thread for that. I'm on my iPhone at the moment but I know there is a thread for suggestions, and I think that anyone who thinks that the autodraft needs fixing can make a post there, so that it can be considered. (edit - here - viewforum.php?f=12 )

I've already offered my 2 cents, so I don't need to repeat myself. I'm just asking that we refrain from posting if it has the effect of perpetuating the statements of disagreements with no resolution in sight. There may be a real difference of opinion. Let's acknowledge that and move on, and those who think its broken can make their suggestions on that other thread.

Actually, Valen, it is a very strong argument.

This forum thread was started because a player was angry about not getting 4 out of 5 of their most preferred players, and subsequent players echoed similar sentiments. So, whether or not you can miss out on your most preferred players was a key issue detractors were complaining about and is a key issue in deciding the best draft system for SOM. And if players don't want to miss out on their most preferred players, they should definitely avoid live drafts where they could miss out on their 5-10 most preferred players.

Therefore, you are the one who needs to strengthen your argument (and pay better attention to other people's arguments) if you are going to adequately address the actual issues at hand.

Where the fuck does anyone say they want to get all their picks? no one expects that. Don't break things off to a tangent that no one is even suggesting.

Yes, you did go off on a tangent. So now we r going to play semantics with our words? Let's stick to the forest and leave the individual trees alone. You obviously get the point of what he is saying, so stop playing childish games and stick to the facts.

Someone with the 3rd pick received 4 out of my top 5 ranked players. HOW IS THAT FAIR?! IN WHAT WORLD IS THAT FAIR!??
It is NOT. You know it. I know it. The whole forum knows it. The ONLY reason you could ever say it is "Fair" is because YOU personally know how to manipulate it to get those great players.

Your argument is that "everyone should know the rules, bla bla bla"
Don't you think this game has enough of a damn learning curve already??
Isn't the point of ANY business to grow? To EVOLVE. To put out a better product and attract more customers??

SO WHY then are you fighting this? Because you are SELFISH. Period.

It's obvious strat 0 matic is being held hostage by a few bullies who spend thousands of dollars a year and wine and pout and threaten quitting if they don't get to keep their creepy manipulative advantages.

Really strat 0 matic? are you that short sited?

F33dM3,

I wrote a cogent post that supported my arguments (including the one concerning the supposed "tangent" you spoke of) with sound logic and clear, ordered articulation. You could have responded to it in a similar fashion...although you may not have the ability to do so. Instead, you gave me and the rest of the forum an ad hominem rant that either grossly misrepresented my arguments or avoided addressing them altogether.

If you actually do have the ability to rationally and cogently respond to my previous post, and actually address its actual arguments, I will welcome it and respond in kind. Until you do, consider that previous post my stance on the matter. I will not respond to any further errant rants and/or vituperations, which will most likely come it its place, although they have been (and probably will be) sources of amusement to my friends and me...your subsequent anecdote about your "dog's gas" was a particularly wonderful representation of both your maturity level and your skills in argument.

Cheers,
L. Strether

Wow, aren't you just a lovely creature.

I ASSURE you Mr.Strether that my I.Q. is bigger than yours. (it's big, don't make me whip it out)

Just because you use "fancy language" (I find it corny and try-hard but whatever) and passive aggressively insult people does not make you anything more than a bully who uses big words.

Richard Dawkins is that you?? :?

And for the record, I was runner up in the world universities debating championship and believe me...
You are no master debater. :| You are obviously afraid of me. Your defensive & cowardly post proves that.
I will save you the further embarrassment and leave it be.
I don't have time for ignorant old men. Go to bed.

p.s.
Instead of working on making the game better, they come up with some pathetic "scavenger hunt" ... Classic.

How F'n hard is it to implement a NORMAL auto-draft??

Jesus Christ, just make 2 draft modes, one for the whiners who need to keep manipulating the system to win... and one for new age hippies like me, who actually want a FAIR drafting process.

You hit the nail on the head. Fixing something means it's broken. Why am I going to pay hard earned money, for a broken team. Pee-u.

For someone who talks bla bla bla so much about answering the other persons point, you have not addressed anything he said, instead you just gave your opinion about whether an argument is strong or not. What is this? A forum for you to show off how smart you are? For God sake you are annoying as hell. You obviously don't give a sh*t about anything other than being right and "looking intelligent".

the problem so many ignore is not that you do not get your desired player. It is that you get a useless player with your first pick of the draft

The draft is HORRIBLE. It's 2013, what kind of mind numbing, nonsensical reasoning can you possibly have to say that it's a good and fair process?! It's NOT. It's skewed to those who know how to manipulate it.

Think for a minute. Imagine NEW players sign up (isn't that what us old farts want? new blood? shouldn't that be #1 in our thinking process??) Now they draft players thinking 1,2,3,4,5th picks actually MEAN 1st,2nd,3rd pick (some bozo was making fun of me for thinking my top 5 picks ACTUALLY meant my top 5 picks. Wow, you got me there buddy) and then get a handful of their desired players. Is someone going to take them aside and explain to them this stupidly pathetic draft system? Or is that person never going to come back? Why make the draft a freaking quantum physics puzzle!?
In what world is that smart business!? You are not coming from a good place on this. You are emotional and biased.
You are selfish and do not care about the long term health of this game. Period.
