Waivers is an nfl style draft. And like the nfl it is designed, not to be fair to all, but to reward the bad teams at the relative expense of the good teams (here we use amount of players received as a proxy for "good" and "bad"). So waivers as a compensatory mechanism is fine although I think it can be improved greatly (like providing a "one of the following but not all" ranking). So to say that people don't want to improve the current system simply because they don't want it to be an nfl style draft is a wrong assumption.

This discussion on the autodraft has been raised many times. And the conclusion/response has always been the same. You guys agree on a better alternative and we will consider it. Then there are discussions/debates/insults about alternatives but someone finds some fault with everything. End result powers that be assume that either there is insufficient consensus on what is desired or that a change would not result in happier customers.

Let's say 1/3 of the people are unhappy with current autodraft. And 2/3 are unhappy. So they change it but only half the people like the newly changed system. That means in the end still only 1/3 are happy. Why bother, especially if changing requires extensive coding that will delay other new features that are being requested and which will increase the number of happy people.

Bottom line what was proposed to be tested here was not perfect. But it had one advantage over everything else that has been suggested. It had a chance of actually happening. It would be easy to implement as a league option and thus other possibly more important/requested features would not be delayed. Actually, it is possible without Strat doing anything at all.

Supporters of the autodraft challenged those who do not like it to suggest an alternative. That is all this was about. Alternative shot down because it was not perfect.

If waivers were a snake-style draft, I have little doubt your league would fill quickly.

The current auto-draft system is terrible. It would be much better if the auto-draft were designed after a snake draft than the current system. You rank 300+players. The system assigns you a draft position. You lose a player, you get the next highest ranking player on your overall draft card. something like that. Or you rank players by individual positions.

Even if there is not a major overhaul of the current system, it should be changed giving preference to how cards are drafted with regards to salary. If multiple owners list a players card, the owners drafting that players highest salary have first dibs. ex. If 5 owners draft Hugh Duffy and 3 draft his .90card and 2 others draft his 11.75 card, the 3 with the .90card are automatically out. Then it goes to whoever ranked him higher on their draft card.

Decent ideas RedRum666. But there is already a thread for suggesting alternatives. Probably best to keep all the suggestions there in one place.

Again, this thread and this league was an attempt at testing a specific alternative to the current autodraft that so many say is so unacceptable that anything would be better. Clearly that is not true.

Suggesting snake draft is pointless because that ability does not exist and I cannot make it exist. And I cannot make it exist. I can and have attempted to give an alternative that would eliminate situations where you ask for Mays and get Combs or worse.

So, if you are interested in giving this specific alternative a test try add your name to the list. 8-)

For discussions on OTHER alternatives to the autodraft please post in one of the threads already created by mr baseball world. There is nothing to accomplish by hijacking this thread and making it just one more futile discussion of a dead end topic. :D

And then if by some miracle everyone there can agree on one alternative as best submit that to strat. But they have made it clear in the past that unless there is clear consensus that it needs to be changed and clear consensus on what that change should be nothing will be changed, especially if it requires substantial effort to implement.
