Super reliever settings - what's the best strategy?

PostMon Sep 09, 2013 9:36 pm

I've seen a multitude of times guys like Murray & Schultz have many many more innings than the starters -- what are the settings that help maximize this?

Setting them as Closer, Setup, Tied & Late, Behind & Late, Tied & 9th gives them the most high leverage innings. I do not NECESSARILY want them throwing a million innings, but I DO WANT them pitching when the game's on the line.

Someone else may be able to speak to how to get them 300 innings.
My best reliever usually gets between 180-220 IP. Don't know if that's the :Super reliever Strategy" or not. The way I use them evolved from how I set my pitching for a Bomber Park----I want my best pitcher pitching at the END of the game, not the beginning in those type parks............

Thanks for sharing -- I use the same strategy but don't seem to get him enough....even in bomber park with SP's on quick hook...wondering if there's some other secret....

Middle man.

Don't forget to set that also for the super reliever. My best relievers innings have gone up nicely since I started adding them into that category. It makes little sense to get them innings after an inferior reliever blows up the game for them.

I think also it might be better not to set a closer role at all. I've read that if you do, Hal might save your reliever for save situations. Not sure how true that is.

I believe that's only true if you have closer setting set to maximize. If you set it on regular HAL will bring in your closer in non save situations.

Does HAL trot him out there even if he's at F0 in all situations though? I'm seeing that.

if i had to guess, your other pitchers were either used up or being saved according to their settings and you had Pfeister selected in the role for that situation. and its also possible that you have him set to 'do not relieve before F0'

That's a good point about the closer setting - I hadn't thought about that...I think this is the case I've seen where my super reliever is kept out of several games in a row where no closer was needed.
