Lineup

PostTue Sep 17, 2013 8:17 pm

This is my 7th "Back to the 80's" team. Have never won a ring and only made the playoffs once. Seems like maybe I've lucked out with some really good players on this team though and it has me optimistic it can win a ring.

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/sim/1113352

Only injury so far has been Darrell Porter (1978 or 1983). Many of the others appear to be in a good to great year. Team BAV .286 3rd in league, OB% .345-5th in league. Team record though is only 13-11 and we seem to strand a lot of base runners and get caught stealing frequently (22 for 34). I'm thinking that I probably don't have the lineup setup to be most effective. Any suggestions?

This is how it's presently set:
vs. RHP (BAV-OB% vs. RHP)
1) CF Willie Wilson S (.315-.375)
2) 1B Mike Hargrove L (.333-.417)
3) 3B Bill Madlock R (.333-.403)
4) RF Von Hayes L (.386-.403)
5) DH Danny Tartabull R (.355-.446)
6) C Darrell Porter L (.191-.286)
7) 2B Frank White R (.288-.318)
8) LF Tim Raines S (.217-.319)
9) UL Washington L (.448-.484)

vs. LHP (BAV-OB% vs. LHP)
1) LF Tim Raines S (.212-.333)
2) UL Washington L (.448-.484)
3) 3B Bill Madlock R (.417-.421)
4) 2B Frank White R (.270-.290)
5) DH Danny Tartabull R (.400-.472)
6) C John Wathan R (.250-.250)
7) RF Von Hayes L (.364-.389)
8) CF Willie Wilson S (.226-.242)
9) 1B Mike Hargrove L (.286-.325)

Thank you for any suggestions! :)

Hey Paddy...I may be able to help a little.

Straight off, Raines should be your leadoff hitter in both lineups. He's your best OBP man and Wilson isn't. Your also getting caught stealing too much (if your not getting a .750 success rate stealing, you are paying the price in wins). I think you should look at your team strategy setting for stealing and set it at conservative. Vs. lefty pitching, I'd move Tartabull to #4 and Hayes to #5. Overall...Your team OBP is excellent and should provide lot's of opportunity's to win games.

As far as pitching, I'd dump Blue and set Burgmeier to "avoid righty hitters". See how it goes after that and keep a sharp eye on trying to determine which cards you have. I think you built a nice team for your stadium.

Jimmy, Thank you for the helpful tips! I dropped Blue for Scott McGregor, made the lineup changes, adjusted Burgmeier and steal settings.

Now have $2.66 available. Not sure if it's better to save that $ until a more obvious need arises or spend it now.

I was thinking of looking for a 1B or C who can hit LHP, but .... maybe it's better to wait a bit and see if Hargove, Wathan, Pryor, or Gerald Perry can hit LHP well enough to start everyday vs. LHP? What would you do?

What would you do?

Hargrove can hit and get on base against LHP and RHP.

What I would do is hold onto the money for a while and keep an eye on the games every day and see if I can figure out what year my players have. I would also check every injury the other players have in the league and keep a book on their years. I would also check every player I thought could help my team that is dropped to the FA. Some players are dropped b/c the manager figured out they are in a bad year. Other times players are dropped for under-performance. You would be amazed at how many players in their top 2 years are dropped because the manager didn't know how to read the cards.

Good luck and have fun.
