In the SWKL summer season, the Burgh Town Boomers and Maxwell's Silver Hammer tied for the 4th-best record in the league, with 89-73 records. This is no big deal, except that the "winner" will need to play the Winter season in the tough East div, where Maxwell's came in 4th with their 89 wins.
Per the league rules:
8) All ties between teams will be broken by the previous season's regular season head to head win/loss records. If this does not break the tie, cumulative regular season win/loss head to head records will be used.
Naturally, a review of the head to head records for the season showed the 2 teams still tied, at 6 wins each. Note: In other leagues, the 3rd round of tie breakers might be the run differential in the head to head contests, where the Boomers had a huge lead, at 77-55. Unfortunately, that would be too easy and I didn't setup the league that way.
In still other leagues, we've modified my original wording, to adapt "cumulative" to mean going back one season at a time, until a winner is determined. In that case, the Silver Hammer would be the victors, since they won by a 9-3 margin in the 2011 Winter season. Again, though, that's not how the rules read in this league.
So...
I'll get back to you, after I sift through all of the SWKL seasons and tally the head to head records.
In the interim, is there any interest in amending this particular rule? Please?
