In a small team meeting last year, the boss tells us we have to get ready to bring a newly acquired office online.
He says "It's Centerville, Ohio".
Another guy and I pipe in with "A great place to raise your kids up." 8-)

The Allentown Dukes. Managed by Mike "King" Kelly

In the 1920's Allentown PA was trying to establish a pro ball team. Actually, this dated back to the 1894, with multiple failures to bring pro ball to the area. The most success the teams had, were in the 20's. At one point, they even tempted the NY Yankees to come to Allentown, for a game. Allentown won, 8-6 I think, with Ruth going 0-2

My team names usually have some specific meaning. Some were musical (e.g. E Street Shuffles, Dire Straits Sultans, Motown Soul Trains), some were movie related (e.g. Sandlot Goliaths, Vodka Martinis), some hearken to comics (e.g. Thanagar Hawks), some were literary (e.g. Gondor Stewards, Aleppo Dogs), some from TV (e.g. Maxwell Smarts, Springfield Stone Cutters), and a bunch from science fiction (e.g. Arrakis Fremen, Mutara Nebulae, Gallifrey Vortex). Some were just names with real places (e.g. Helena Handbaskets, Hope Springs Eternals).

Right now I have a team called the Florence Nightingales. I'm doing a theme in a regular league: all the players have first or last names that could be female (or somehow relate to women). Missed out on Babe Ruth, but did land Hazen Shirley "KiKi" Cuyler, Baby Doll Jacobson, and Max Carey (who managed in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League).

I would hope that the vast majority of us here relate to women.

You reminded me of my team, the Xarathustra Fuzzies. Somehow that team doesn't show up in my team history. I will have to e-mail them. I've also done a lot of Harry Potter related team names.

Not really a as tribute, but some team names I've used are:

Beale Street Blues (for the times I've been to Memphis)

Fernando Llamas (from the Argentinian actor Fernando Lamas, and the motivation for the Billy Crystal comedy bit)

Lorenzo Llamas (from the son of Fernando, B movie and soap opera actor Lorenzo Lamas)

Greek tragedY (from an alphabet league team I had using players whose last names began with G or Y)

Some team names I really like have come from other guys in leagues I've been in, such as:

Helena Handbasket

Taipei Personalities

Manila Folders

Crimea River
