Frankly, however, I think _how_ they figure out BP HR/SI ratings has absolutely nothing to do with the online game. The purpose of those ratings is so they can simulate actual (replayed) seasons as accurately as possible. And, SOM does a pretty good job at that using the CD-ROM game or playing head-to-head. People do that quite frequently and the results are generally pretty uncanny in their accuracy. Change the teams and parks up, like putting the Rockies at Petco for example, and all sorts of strange things happen.

For the online game, I don't think it matters at all. We all play with the same pool of parks. Having a decent variety of parks makes it possible to tailor our teams towards the strengths and weaknesses of those parks and I think has great value in that we all don't want to pick the same guys. Play in a theme league where you all take the same park and the autodraft is likely to be a big, ugly mess.

"Ballpark data is based on a number of different factors including the number of home runs hit compared to previous seasons."

Well that certainly clears everything up for me.

Sorry about getting whiny, guys. I'm finally in a place to accept the game as it is.

I don't think you were whiny at all---

I just got into online this year after not playing the game for 25 years, and the offensive numbers just stunned me overall---I like the online game--I just wish when you created a league you could pick and choose what rules you want, just like the CD rom---for instance "don't use ballpark effects"--and especially "turn clutch rules off" why bother with clutch rules as these aren't replays.

The ballpark effects HR's are out of control in my opinion.

I got tired of all the offense against me and good pitchers like Medlin and Strasburg getting crushed, so I decided to join them--here is a no-Dh Coors team that hit well over 300 HRs and no pitching much to speak of.
