It reminds me a little of what someone said about poker.
What makes this game so great is not that some people play it so well. It's that so many people play it so poorly.

I don't think a great manager is ever going to end up with a -200 run differential. They might go 76-86 after optimizing a team to their park. That's just the luck of the season.

I think the waiver is a big part of the game where it takes a lot of strategy AND there is a ton of luck. You might need a defensive 2B and nothing is left. Or you get 2 out of 4 SP* pitchers and you either go SP* or non. You can try to platoon players with high R or L balances. And maybe it works or maybe somebody else is after the same players and then you have to scramble.

That's a good analogy. I suspect these super managers probably shopped around for low rated managers.
