Frankly I root for unrealistic results, like me winning every freaking game and throwing no hitters game after game.

Just win baby!

(Best if read in cranky, old, Muppet-like voice.)

Eh, kids these days. I remember back in the old days of ATG, when you could get Eddie Collins for under 6 million. These modern ATG players with their high salaries and bomber parks and whatnot...

You kids don't know how easy you have it! Waivers! Why we had to frenzy at midnight, uphill both ways!

Cruiser, you forgot the part about how each transaction took half an hour on your dial-up connection.

too bad he will never experience the thrill of having his 98 win team lose to a 83 win wildcard in the semifinal.

As a novice ATG player and rookie Barnstormer, I have felt like mikesuds frequently. However, rather than complain and cuss, I decided I would watch and read and learn from other managers.

I have come to terms with the fact that the on-line version of this game may use "dice," but it does not involve the use of one-sided black and white cards.

I may not like the fact that a team of sluggers who cannot run or field can bomb my "balanced" team back to the Stone Age. I may not like the fact that a reliever can pitch 300+ innings and (almost) become a 30 game winner. I may not like the fact that Doc Medich or David Clyde can serve as "honorary" 5th starters, whose only duties appear to be to fulfill a league requirement and to be sure the post-game buffet is ready and the beer is cold.

However, I have seen successful managers use these strategies to win championships. I am amazed by the thought process that is required to create a team. The game involves strategy beyond just baseball knowledge. You cannot simply pick a bunch of "all-stars," because everyone has a bunch of all-stars. The key is to learn successful strategies, and incorporate them into a style you are comfortable with. I am still working on that idea.

Mikesuds, if you are still reading you post, I would agree with others who have suggested that you try leagues with a $60 or $80 million salary cap. The lower salary cap limits the impact of sluggers to some extent. Actually, "small-ball" can be a very successful concept in a $60 mil league.

Lastly, mikesuds, this forum is no place for profanity. Yes, we are intense competitors, but I believe we also try to be respectful competitors who try to learn from and help one anther.

If only our elected officials could do the same right now.
