Drafting Only 1 Good Reliever?

PostTue Oct 15, 2013 3:28 pm

I'm considering trying this to maximize my offense, after overspending on previous teams for a bullpen I could manipulate easily (albeit successfully). I figured I'd draft an R2 reliever for around 3.5-4.5 million, but I'd like to know from people's experience with it, how many innings can I expect out of my guy, and how many games will I lose because the wrong guy is in there?

Not that Im any good at this game but I have a favorite closer I draft high on the list. All of my other relief pitchers drafted are cheap, left handed and at the bottom of the list. My latest r2 cheap reliever saw 102.2 innings. Mostly because my starters can barley make it through 5 innings.
Luis Perez went 6 and 3 with 5 saves and a 5.52 ERA. Not bad for .87 mil.

He can lead your team in IP if you do it right.

I have seen a few teams 'do it right'. Since I am new to SOM online I haven't figured that out yet :(

You can get 150innings +/- 20 innings out of a F2 reliever--some people get more by probably pitching them tired (F0-slow hook--too risky for me). I think you need a 2nd decent reliever tough as he will be tired every 3rd game or so if you maximize his use.

a lot of factors come into play like how much will u spend on starters. i like a bullpen that consists of 2 or 3 guys that have good sub 3 million cards. there are usually some good deals- soriano marshall perkins league etc that can add up to 6 million or less.

You set him for Middle Man, Setup and Closer. F0 and slow hook. Do not set any other pitchers for any of those and he will pitch way past his arm falling off. I don't worry about fatigue at all.

Fwiw.

I have R2 reliever Junichi Tazawa on pace for 212 IP. Settings are middle man, setup, behind & late, tied & late. No slow-hook, no "F"-anything (ain't got the cojones to gamble the 11 extra hits  ).

W/L 9-7, 10 BS, 3.27 ERA, 1.27 Whip. Guessing that's a decent performance for SkyD... er, Rogers Park; bit of a hitters' league tendency overall.

ETA--> Team also has a legitimate "bargain" closer in Jim Johnson at $4.2M, and the usual assortment of cheap and highly skewed riffraff. So I suppose actually 2 good relievers.
