Let's draft 'em all -- all 940 played!

PostSun Oct 20, 2013 7:24 pm

This post was moved to page 1 from page 16, where it was initially posted -- EDITS APPROVED NOVEMBER 10

I modified a typical set of keeper league rules, as shown below, and also added it to a new tab in the Google doc.

* * * * *

ROSTER MANAGEMENT
940 players / 12 franchises = 78.33 players each
(8 teams at 78 and 4 at 79)

Majors: 25 active
Minors: Up to 26 active
Instructional: Up to 28 active

LEAGUE SETUPS
2012 unleashed set
DH: Yes
Drop penalty: 10%
Divisions randomized by game engine

TEAM SALARY CAPS
Majors: $200 mil cap
Minors: $50 mil cap for ACTIVE players on roster
Instructional: $25 mil cap for ACTIVE players on roster

INDIVIDUAL SALARY CAPS
Majors: None
Minors: No more than 3 players over $3.5 mil, with a cap of $4.5 mil for any individual player
Instructional: No more than 3 players over $1.75 mil, with a cap of $2.25 mil for any individual player

INJURIES
In the event of injuries, it will not be necessary to release the injured player. A replacement may be called up to the Majors or the Minors for the duration of the injury, but he or another player must be returned to the lower level before the next series. Note: The injury replacement can not have a salary more than $1 mil higher than the injured player.

When a player is called up, he must be dropped at the same time from the lower level team. Managers are responsible for doing this on the honor system. Prior to each night's play, each manager will make sure his/her teams have the appropriate total number of players on the active rosters, with the exception that injured players need not count against such totals at that moment in time.

STAGED LEAGUE START DATES
As shown in the Google doc, league start dates will be setup so that "September call-ups" will have less impact on lower level title runs. The Instructional league will start first, followed by the Minors and then by the Majors. At one week apart, this means that when the lower level league concludes the regular season, then the higher level league will be at game 141 (and still able to add players to rosters).

Because the leagues are not all starting at the same time, it would be possible for a better player to start the season at a lower level and then be promoted as soon as the next league starts. To avoid that, only promotions for injury replacements will be allowed in the first 30 games of each league's season.

After game 30 in a given league, players can be demoted from one league to another. In such cases, though, the replacement who is promoted must have a higher salary than the one who is sent down.

LATE SEASON CALL-UPS
In the Majors and the Minors, each team may add additional players to their active rosters (to a maximum of 28 players) after game 132 has been played.

TRADES
Trading players is allowed and encouraged. Trades must be posted by both owners in the league ILC chat thread before they can be enacted. No franchise may have more than 79 players, though, so all trades must allow teams to stay within that limit.

EVERYBODY PLAYS
Each player must remain assigned to a franchise for the entire season and -- in the spirit of Little League coaches everywhere -- every player must be used in at least one game. Let's play 'em all...

It's boring in Strat land at this time of year, with no draft going on, so I propose a season-ending blowout where we draft every player and play them in 3 leagues: majors, minors, and instructional.

Just to make it interesting (and to get the draft done before Christmas), we could run a series of simultaneous drafts, with the players distributed by the first position shown on each player's card.

See basic proposal at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... _web#gid=0

I chatted with manleeman about this and he was interested. Are there 10 other folks out there looking for a new and unique challenge?

Interesting but A few questions just to be sure :

- What would be the $ cap (mainly for the major team) ?

- Are trades allowed ?

- If I draft at #12 & 13 for my CFs and one of them can play RF, I can field him where I want ?

- 1st, we draft our complete major team. Then the minors (only with the players still available right ?)

Hey, JF, welcome aboard! As to your questions:

- $200 mil, unleashed, DH
- Majors team at 25 active players
- Minors team at 25 active
- Instructional team with the remaining 28

- Movement between your teams just as in a standard keeper; i.e., free movement up or down for injuries, etc.
- The trick would be that if call up Joe Blow to your Majors team, then you need to drop him from your Minors team, and vice versa

- Drafting for position players by the first position on their cards is only to speed things up; once you own 'em, play 'em wherever you'd like

- If we can do 10 simultaneous drafts for the 8 position players plus SP's plus RP's, then we will be drafting for our entire 78-man system -- you don't need to draft for the Majors and then for the Minors, etc. -- Maybe you grab 2 slugging 1B's early on and then go back and get a 3rd one for the Minors, even if you've not filled out the rest of your roster yet
- Indeed, looking at the data, all of the other positions will be filled long before we finish with the SP's

BTW Terry, I hope that you and Strato have some kind of agreement (a percentage for you...). If I was in all of the keepers leagues that you iniated plus the 2 round robin plus this one It would represent at least 75 credits spent. Multiply by 12 players and that's how much Strato gain from having a member with so much ideas and entrepreneurship!
Congrats for the creativity !
