What's The Best Strategy???

This is the link to the past two years of the Barnstormers. There was an optional 60 / 140 million event in each - you can find lots of ideas there, some good and some bad. There are 13 $60 million leagues there, 156 teams, 76 different ballparks.

Technically you have full set to choose from. But technically you have the full set to choose from at 200 mil.
In reality though it is just a different subset. At 60 mil you are not going to anchor your pitching staff with Maddux and your lineup with Cobb and Ruth. But at 200 mil you are probably not going to waste your money on Pet Vuckovich, Milt May, and Larry Bowa.

So really does strategy change that much? To me it is the same. Identify players that give you the most benefit for the park and strategy theme you are using. Play the cap enough to learn who the value players are in the price range you can afford. Biggest difference is there are more cards in the 2-4 mil price range than in the 10-15 mil range to choose from.

Well let's look at it this way, Hornsby (12mil) is going to produce at any cap, he could possibly put up significantly higher numbers in BA, OBP and extra base hits in the bottom caps, simply b/c he'll most likely face A LOT of lesser pitchers. Now his runs created numbers won't increase unless he's surrounded by good talent right? But at 60mil does a 12mil Hornsby card truly add value to your roster when you take into account how much money you have to sacrifice on the rest of the roster. B/C the roll probability doesn't change, it's still 50/50 whether it falls on pitcher or hitter card, you' just banking on those pitcher cards not being the best pitcher cards at that low cap. But how many spots in your lineup or on your staff will be of low quality b/c you over spent on Hornsby?

I think that could be a different angle to the value discussion.

How to think concerning your comments on Hornsby example. Definitely will cut down on money available to spend elsewhere. Now does that remove Hornsby from probably consideration? If it does then the impact is nothing more than a shifting of the domain for the player pool.

If one decides to use Hornsby then be ready to build a team around Hornsby. Might be fun to discuss the best ways to do that. Here is a difference in strategy. At 200 mil Hornsby may just be one of several who together give you a masher squad strategy. How does he alter 60 mil strategy? Here is a thought. You are gonna want some OBP in front of him. Now in the price range you are going to be able to afford may be some choices/tradeoffs to make. A card normally frowned upon and considered low value because it is one sided and only gives you OBP maybe moves to top of depth chart because while one sided that one side is what fits around Hornsby who is your foundation. Going off top of head instead of extensive thought and research but maybe Felipe and Matty Alou get some consideration even though they offer little in the way of power. And recent real experts on the 60 mil can probably name a few more even better examples of guys who could be cheap tablesetters for Hornsby enhancing Hornsby's value while Hornsby enhances theirs by slugging them in. And you want to find a way to get a positive clutch guy to hit behind Hornsby to lessen the interntional walks.

So here I am contradicting myself a little. At 200 mil I avoid one dimensional cards. I want everyone to be great at something, good at some other things and bring something to the table no matter what tool I am discussing. In 2001 set I had a lot of success going after the 20/20 and 30/30 guys. Won several times with Cruz in LF.
