The main battle in the Barnstormers is the "herding cats" aspect of it. With sometimes 12-13 LEAGUES at a time to deal with and over 130+ players with which to try to fit into a deadline, not to mention doing my best to have both early leagues and a "late" league, all in an effort to try to bend to the vacationers schedule, the goal is to set a deadline. You don't set a deadline, nothing happens.
Problems with that is, if I give 5 days, 120 hours - seems like a couple of people feel like they need 121 hours. And this was when I assigning people to leagues. So what would happen is that 11 of the people in the leagues get in within 2 days, and the rest of the players are waiting and waiting for the lone holdout. Many complained, how long do we have to wait for so and so ? And that was only magnified when so and so was a big name. When the deadline come and go and so and so had to be replaced with others, they felt "above" the rules and were "not happy".
The "bully" aspect come from needing to both set and enforce said deadlines. It surely seems that some would challenge the deadline, just to see what would happen. So, over the years, I am trying to spend less time on coddling people and more time on the setting and enforcing of the deadlines. If you miss the deadline, deal with it - you've missed that event.
Do we really feel that 5 days time to put your team together isnt long enough ? I can't remember any other single incidents with Druid/Nev that weren't centered around anything else other than - we are all waiting on you - put in your damned team !!!
Now we have a nice benefit that came about this year. Ability to randomize the league once everyone was in. This eliminates the game that some played to hold off on entering their team to avoid specific divisions. And I started creating half a dozen leagues at a time and not assigning people to specific leagues. Those that got in right away had their league filled rapidly. Those that went later joined up with others that took longer. This also appears to work well.
But at some point in time, a deadline has to be set - and I don't care who you are. If someone else wants to step up and run Barnstormers, have at it. I could use the break.
Oh and as far as the other recent issues - no I do not like off-topic posts in this forum or any other forum. Nor do I like profanities thinly veiled by dashes and underlines. There are rules for what should be posted here and if what is posted offends me, it will be reported. Find someplace else to talk politics.
