SB team

PostMon Nov 25, 2013 5:34 pm

I just put together a team comprised of the top SB guys at each position (AA or A basestealers with the highest obp available). I got everyone I wanted in the autodraft except for two of my 10 guys so pretty good. The bad part is it appears to be a league filled with high HR parks while I am in Kauffman.

C Y Molina 1b Goldschmidt 2b Altuve SS Rollins 3b E Cabrera LF Revere CF Bourn RF Trout DH E Nunez/Pierre

My question is how do I get these guys to swipe a lot of bags but be more careful stealing third or home? It is so frustrating to see HAL send a guy to steal third with two out and a good hitter up or see HAL attempt to swipe Home multiple times a season. I have never built a high sb team before so not familiar with the differences between "normal", aggressive and extra aggressive basestealing options.

You, sir, have touched upon (imho) the holy grail of all Strat questions with this one. I am definitely looking forward to the forthcoming answers.... :D

Turn 'em loose, and just learn to accept the bad with the good. You can't breathe by only inhaling. Sometimes the outcome will not always be the desired one, however, if I recall the past SB studies, the strategy leading to the most runs scored is to set them at "very aggressive" (checking the "don't steal" box for the non-base stealers) and watch 'em go.

Lucky me, I'm in your division. Lets see how Cano does against these 15 right handed starters he faces in our division. No one has a left handed starter against him.

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/1115456

although this is an '86 team, still a xx set.

through 126 games i am 75-51, 437 sbs' 146 caught (75%)

sb/cs 361-98 (2) 72-42(3) 4-6(h)

like the other post, embrace the all or nothing.....but this team only works when you have a stellar, and i mean stellar bullpen.

this team is 13-3 in xtra innings and 32-19 in 1 run games......that's what sb do for you....but if the game isn't close late, forget it, your team wont win more than 60-70 games.

how about murphy here haha, 11 wins 4 losses 25 saves, 142 innings, 1.81 era, .91 whip.....pretty sick

for awhile he was leading for cy young and mvp, but not the rollaids relief award haha go figure

answer: get SOM to FINALLY have a "don't steal third EVER" option in team strategy

yes, some people won't use it

BUT I WILL -- because the "very aggressive" setting is total idiocy if it means you have to uselessly waste outs at third base, something with NO strategic edge over the long run even if you do get the steal sometimes

I would use very aggressive WAY more if not for the idiotic third base attempts

a really dumb aspect of the online game

No, they should just remove the steal base aggressiveness and replace with 3 new boxes, steal 2B, steal 3B, steal Home, so you can set the aggressiveness for each.

BTW, I've won games before where a great stealer stole both 3B and home!

If you could talk Strat in to adding that to each player's settings I would vote for you as csar of Strat.
There are some guys like Coleman in ATG I would want stealing third, especially at lower caps where catcher throwing arms might not be as high.

I had my first series last night and had set base stealing at aggressive (not very aggressive). 7sb, 8cs (one at third). All of my basestealers are 19-15 or 19-14 except for Altuve who is 18-13 but it was a dismal start. I will try very aggressive and see what happens.
