^^^ To blsmith7 - I'm not sure what went wrong with the previous standings, but your corrected **projected** point total is 360. If you win the semi's, your projected total goes to 365 (tie for 36th). If you win the championship in event 5 your projected point total would go to 370.

BUT, you will still need to get a good performance from your event 5 team in its remaining games. If they lose more than they win, that will cause your projected (and final) point total to be lower. If they win more than they lose, the projected (and final) point total goes up (of course).

However, for the sake of having preliminary results that are comparable from player to player, the following point system was used. (1) Adjust player event results (i.e. wins plus playoff bonus points) by adding .5 for each game not yet played, where 162 games have not yet been played in a particular event. Fractions are rounded up. (2) The best 4 event results are counted. (3) Penalty points for re-using ballparks have been applied. (4) I have added the bonus points for entering all 5 events, on these standings.

I have not attempted to apply any tie-breaker tests at this time. For simplicity, I have just listed the standings in numeric order, without recognizing ties or tie-breakers.

Remember - the top 36 participants advance to the semi-final playoff round - 3 12 team leagues, with the 4 playoff teams from each of those leagues advancing to the final championship league!

Players who are currently ranked 37-41 should keep checking the standings periodically, for 2 reasons (1) some players in the 1-36 **projected spots** could possibly drop down below the 36 spots if they go on a long losing streak - some have lots of games left to play, and (2) if players fail to check in for the playoffs, or can't participate for some reason, then the replacements will be picked - in order - from the next highest finishers from those 37th and subsequent ranked players. This is a real possibility , as it tends to happen every year.

All players who are projected to be finishing 1-36 should look for the information on the playoff rounds (posted on other threads on this "Players Championship" discussion board, and should check in on the thread that will be set up for that purpose on or about December 15.

Some comments -

There is a heated battle for the 36th and final playoff spot right now!

ROGGIE and teamnasty (what a great handle!) are looking good at the 27th and 28th spots. However, they both have 45 games to play. At 372 points, they are not right at the bubble spot, but they need to keep winning their share of games in event 5 league 8 in order to maintain their position in the projected point total standings. Games in hand need to be won!

blsmith7 has hopped into the 35th spot with a semi-final round playoff victory in event 4. He could earn another 5 points if he wins that championship in Event 4 League 9. However, he still has 45 games to play in event 5, and the projected point total will change with every win or loss.

Same comment for Jake Squid, who is now at the 36th spot with 366 projected points. Jake can't really drop below 364 points, due to the "best 4 out of 5 events" points rule. However, every point is huge at spot #36.

T. Richardson is "in the clubhouse" at 365 points. He is currently in the 37th spot, but could drop to 38th when markyura's playoff bonus points are counted after Friday's games (see below). If one or two of the leaders with games in hand should go on a long losing streak, T. Richardson could still sneak into the top 36.

Jeepdriver is also in the clubhouse with 364 points. Like T. Richardson, he needs to get some help to advance into the top 36.

mpcharette has made a big run to the finish line! His event 7 team has played .600 ball down the stretch, and has clinched a playoff spot now in that league. The 5 playoff bonus points have not been added yet. But with 3 games to play, and 5 bonus points already earned (but not added), he is sitting with 359 points already in the bank. With 5 bonus points that makes 364. Depending on how many wins he gets tonight, and how the playoffs go, he could leapfrog into the final 36 with his strong finish!

STEVENHOLMAN is also in that league 7, and could still make the league 7 playoffs. However, he would likely have to win his 3 remaining games, and win the championship in that league 7, in order to finish with 364 points, which would put him into a tie-breaker with Jeepdriver. Then, like Jeep, he would also need help from other players to be the spoilers against the players who have leads, but games in hand to play out.

As a note of general interest, it's quite a wild and wooly playoff race in Event 5 League 7. Although "the splinter" and "mpcharette" have clinched their playoff spots, 5 of the other players in that league are still competing for the other 2 playoff spots - mesquiton, STEVENHOLMAN, Red Beards, Stoney 18, and Phenomenal (who could still make the playoffs with the 3 way tie-breaker). The last 3 games of the regular season run tonight!

Likewise, the semifinal playoff round in Event 5 League 5 is also wild and wooly. It's going down to 2 game 7 match ups tonight. There's a front-runner battle between qksilver69, and Knerrpool (last year's champion). Meanwhile, the other game 7 is between Terry101, and pronk08, 2 other top 36 finishers.

The semi's are already done in Event 5 League 6. LongIsland4Ever (HAL's gotta like that handle!) continues his strong finish to the tournament, by advancing to the finals against "uncle ny" (hmm...another NY reference....is there a pattern forming here?).

Event 5 League 8 features strong performances from ROGGIE and teamnasty, who are actually in the same division in that league (see comments above relating to their leader status in the hunt for spots in the top 36). cwitkowski970 also has a strong team in that league, for a strong finish to the tournament.

Likewise, League 9 sees NYY82602 (projected point total of 375, currently ranked 20th overall) making a strong finish to the tournament. Although his tournament projected point totals are slightly higher than ROGGIE and teamnasty, he must also "bring it home", with 66 games still to play. He is currently leading his League 9 division with a .573 winning percentage.

One more note -

A quick look at the tie-breakers would suggest that T. Richardson would win most tie-breakers

Championships won - 1
Finals made - 1
Playoffs made - 3 (!)

This is not a final determination of course. We'd have to look at who might be tied at 365 points, at the end of the 5 events.

But what this suggests is that, in order to finish ahead of T. Richardson, and in the final 36 (it would appear at this point), the cut-off in terms of points needed appears to be 366 points, in order to finish in the top 36.

21 wins over 5 seasons and I coulda been in. Thats only 4 wins a season! This is a very tight race good luck to all who end in the top 36!

There's a few playoff series nearing completion. I'll update the standings again (with the games in hand system, on this thread) once those playoff series are complete.

Meanwhile - congrats to recent event/league champions - blsmith7, J-Pav, nol15736, and uncle ny. blsmith7's bonus points now have him at 364 points from events 1-4 (best raw scores so far, without adjustments for games in hand), but he has 30 games left in event 5, and will likely be able to increase those points with a good finish in that event.

Please be aware that the above total includes games in hand, at a rate of .5 win per game in hand. Therefore, these standings are still **preliminary**.

Some players who are ranked highly still have to "play out their seasons". Players with games in hand can either gain further points (if they play better than .500) or lose points (if they play worse than .500). Also, there will be playoff bonus points still to come. So keep playing till the last out! You never know!

Players who are currently ranked 37-41 should keep checking the standings periodically, for 2 reasons (1) some players in the 1-36 **projected spots** could possibly drop down below the 36 spots if they go on a long losing streak - some have lots of games left to play, and (2) if players fail to check in for the playoffs, or can't participate for some reason, then the replacements will be picked - in order - from the next highest finishers from those 37th and subsequent ranked players. This is a real possibility , as it tends to happen every year.

All players who are projected to be finishing 1-36 should look for the information on the playoff rounds (posted on other threads on this "Players Championship" discussion board, and should check in on the thread that will be set up for that purpose on or about December 15.
