1990's Edgar Martinez injury question

I just noticed Edgar Martinez has a "2" injury on his 1996 card (from 1990's mystery card set) yet he had 499 at-bats and 123 BB's. What gives?

He only played in 139 games that year. Also, SOM will assign a higher injury rating to someone who got injured a lot compared to someone who got injured once for a long time.

So the 600 ab's + BB's isn't set in stone? I always heard that if a hitter accrued 600 PA's then he could only be injured up to three games at any given die roll (because he'd be a "1" injury) so you're telling me that's just another myth from my Strat prehistoric ancestors?

I did too, good question...... Also Bill Madlock's 1979 card says he is an injury "0" and yet he got hurt, I think that one must be a mistake. But what gives with Edgar Martinez and his 600 plate appearances?
