Awards voting, Gold Glove

PostFri Dec 13, 2013 3:48 pm

I'm curious how the Gold Glove award voting is determined in-game. I say this as I am wrapping up a league tonight, in which Bench has a fielding pct. of 1.000 with zero errors, and only 1 PB all year. He is neither the leader or runner-up in voting. With respect to Mauer and Rodriguez, who are both awesome defensively, I'm a little surprised that Bench isn't up there. I'm guessing it must be due to the X-play percentage . . . Bench is 57/68; Mauer is 72/83; and IRod is 68/78. Ironically Mauer, the top vote-getter, has allowed a whopping 18 PB and 101 SB to 45 CS. He has also committed 5 Errors. IRod looks better to me, with 22SB/21CS/1PB and only 2 Errors. Bench? 33SB/21CS/1PB and of course no errors . . . it only seems as though he has the fewest X-chances. So, apart from voter ignorance or error, why is Bench left out?

Yea, I find that these awards sometimes go to seemingly undeserving players. I just finished a franchise league in which Mike Scott won the Cy. I think Vida Blue should've won (and he wasn't even #2), especially when Scott lost the last 9 games he started. Early on he was certainly the favorite, but all those losses in a row should've dropped him out of the mix. I don't know what formula HAL uses to pick the winners, but it really seems flawed.

And that is exactly why SOM will never tell you how they do the awards - it would lead to 100 people telling them how to do it better.

But it is so extremely important. I can handle Hal not handling my platoons well, bringing in my lefty specialist to face a RH hitter, or bringing in a 4 fielder as a defensive replacement but he jolly well better give Ozzie his gold glove.

We're just sayin' wierd logic here, means wierd logic elsewhere.

Yea Valen not all that important to the game results, but maybe still worth discussing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the awards were picked at random. I seriously doubt put much time in to it. This is just window dressing to add a little extra element. Something easily thrown together for the cdrom game as an easy to add feature to justify everyone repurchasing something they already have. I would not read anything more in to innaccurate results.

Besides how many of us can even agree with the real life voting results? I do not think you can equate not getting right who was assigned a gold glove with accuracy in coding anywhere else. Besides if you really want to get accurate any league with Vizquel should have him as the gold glove. He has the best fielding ratings and thus is going to produce the best fielding season. But that would be boring so most likely the logic randomly picks someone else so there is something to talk about.
