Old Ballparks

Many new fan-friendly stadiums have replaced aging ballparks over the past 10-20 years. I've only been to a few - Tiger Stadium, County Stadium, Busch Stadium, The Astrodome, Joe Robbie, Shea and Candlestick. I'll never forget my day in the old ballpark at Michigan & Turnbull.

Are there any old ballyards that you really miss not having around anymore, maybe because the new stadium isn't as intimate or doesn't have as much character as the previous one?

I miss the Metrodome. It certainly wasn't charming or intimate, but the Twins won 2 World Series there and those were special memories for me. It's coming down next month.

Two of my favorites are now either parking lots (Griffith Stadium) or aparrtments/condos (Ebbetts Field). I wonder how long my third favorite (Fenway) can hold out.

I have been in all 3 Twins Stadiums.

The first time I was in the old Met, it was a Saturday double header with the Orioles. Earl Weaver was serving a suspension, but was sitting right next to the outfield end of the dugout. The Twins won both ends of the doubleheader.

I absolutely hated the Metrodome and that damn baggy in RF.

I really like the layout of Target Field where you can still see the field while in line at the concession stands.

Maybe I'm getting old but I miss scheduled double headers, $10 infield tickets and $2 hot dogs.
