You are probably right on double plays having an influence. But I think they should not. Range should be a measure of a players ability to get to the ball. Double plays should be separate. But that would require a revamping of the defensive rating system. With the huge increase in defensive metrics available these days I think Strat should consider an update to how fielding is handled. Though that would be a major undertaking due to need to redo for past seasons for compatibility. So unlikely to happen.

You have to keep in mind that the defensive range ratings are part of a game system that is tyring to create accurate replays. It's not a ranking of best to worst fielders because you have to take into account the entire teams performance. If the fielder isn't giving up hits then you have to put more on the pitchers card. it's a balancing act for Strat

If the hits were given up because the pitcher was not that good then they should be on that card.
If the lack of hits against a pitcher was because of a fielder then they should be on that card.
A fielder's rating should be based on his fielding performance.

If a team wins because it is loaded with a bunch of great hitters or even great hitters and great pitchers that should in no way mean the fielders should also get favorable fielding ratings just because he was on a team with a winning record. That does not create accurate replays.

If Elvis for example were traded to Houston he would play for a crappy team racking up 100 losses but he would still be among the elite fielding shortstops and would still deserve a 1 rating.

If the argument is that a fielder benefits from playing for a winning team because that winning enhances his reputation and Strat goes by reputation as much as pereformance then you could have a valid point. If the argument though is that such a valuation results in a more accurate replay then I have to respectfully disagree. For a truly accurate replay the contribution of each component of the team should accurately reflect what was actually brought to the table. To the extent any player gets a better rating or a better card than their performance calls for because the team had a winning record the accuracy of the replay is called in to question.

So safe to say any player(s) listed as "REG" will be in the online game?

Anyone? Bueller, Bueller? I'm assuming yes, of course, but wanting to make sure.

No, becuase they could be in the Unleashed set, so there' is no guarantee that all REG players will be included in the non unleashed set. The only thing guaranteed is that the COMP and ADD players will not be in either version.

Anyone find it surprising how many 1 rated shortstops are in the set? 1/3 of all teams have a 1 fielding shortstop. I do not remember seasons were there were that many before. Are we in sort of a golden era for shortstops?

Wonder what the record is for most 1 rated shortstops in a season? And while on the subject wonder what the record is for 1 rated fielders in a season for all positions?

I'm very surprised. Not that there aren't a lot of good shortstops, just that I never thought we'd see this many in one set. I thought Florimon had a shot at a 1, and he missed.

If I remember right it is usually in the neighborhood of March 1.
