IMO The fatigue increase changes the RESULTS on the pitchers cards, it doesn't change the die roll to go to the hitters card.

Back in the day of collecting stats, downloaded seasons worth of the play by play boxscores... I did find that as fatigue rating decreased from f9 to lower levels the % of times rolled on the batter's card increased. As I recall, it went from very close to 50% at f9, up to about 60% when pitchers reached f2, f1 and f0.

That is not to say that the computer logic didn't also influence which rolls on the pitcher card, say avoiding K's and DP's and rolling more on hits and walks... but at least one, if not the main way, that the computer dealt with pitcher fatigue was to favor the hitters card in such a manner.

At one point I had also wanted to test another hypothesis... that the computer yielded way more than the typical amount of grandslams when the bases were loaded, but that fell onto the large not-yet-done list.

It would be nice if pitcher cards displayed a point of weakness...almost like clutch symbol on hitters cards...I thought that used to be displayed on the board game...but I can't remember

With the old cards and dice when a pitcher became fatigued a strikeout with a dot next to it would become a single**.

Is there some kind of pitch count fatigue rule as well?

@ -- Indicates the reading is changed to SINGLE** if the pitcher is fatigued. A starting pitcher becomes fatigued when 1) the game has reached the pitcher's endurance number in innings, and he gives up either 3 hits and/or unintentional walks in the same inning, or 4 hits and/or unintentional walks over 2 consecutive innings, or 2) he gives up 5 runs in any one inning, 6 runs over 2 consecutive innings, or 7 runs over 3 straight innings. A relief pitcher becomes fatigued under the same circumstances as a starting pitcher does (i.e. allowing 3 hits and/or walks within a 3-out period, etc.), but the point at which these rules kick in is determined by outs. A reliever with a Relief endurance of 1 is immediately vulnerable - he could become fatigued if he allows 3 hits and/or walks before recording a single out. A reliever with a Relief endurance of 2 would become vulnerable after he has recorded 3 outs.

The F9 starts to decrease based on pitch count, and jumps to zero automatically when the dots would have kicked in (for allowing 5 runs in an inning, 6 in 2, or 7 in 3). The @ (or dot) symbols are irrelevant when the pitch count rule is turned on.

drfreeze remembers right about the @ being used in the old board game. But as rburgh points out that is not used with the advanced fatigue methodology used by the computer in the cdrom and online games. Fatigue is now more complictated and "black boxish". All we can really know for certain is penalties get worse as the F? number gets lower.

My belief that some rolls are shifted to the hitter cards is based on logic that it would be one method I would employ if programming it. And anecdotal evidence as put forth by Proverbial Psalms and many others in discussions on the boards in the past. I am certain I read something from the game company indicating that if fatigued enough pitchers could not only give up more singles but start giving up HRs as well. Unfortunately I have been unable to locate that reference in the rules. It may be in the docs for the cdrom game but I would have to fire up my old computer in order to access that.
