The converse to bargains being exposed too early in the year are the posts that badmouth a good card. I mentioned Ruggiano earlier, which meant he was always available for me. I look at my system (mostly Luckyman's) and if the card is rated high, it will eventually come through.

Hernandez is an example right now. He's been badmouthed on the boards, so I keep picking him up after the draft and he wins 19 for me over and over.

other bargains I liked: Pennington, Ransom v L, Plouffe v L, Valdespin to back an injury player. Pomeranz as lh protection, Drabek v those teams with 9 LH hitters (with Progressive, there were a lot more this year than you'd think), Floyd v 3 LH or less, Westbrook. Kelly Johnson as a backup for Utley. Ka'aihue as LH protection v L.

J-Pav: Medlen, Kershaw, and Dickey had better WHIPs, but very few IP (less than 500)

I think Peavy must have been one of those occasionally touched by HAL, because he was great for me all year, in hitter's parks. He has BPs but they're low, and he just did well.

2011 Peavy was good too -got a perfect game from him.

Definitely. I remember on one post, a few owners were really badmouthing Ian Desmond , one of the best cards in the set. Of course, when they're doing this, they could just be spreading misinformation to keep other players from drafting a player they really want.

I like Hill and Desmond, but man, I think they could ground into DPs with nobody on base.

Hill was on a 98 win team. He was a beast even in Citizens.

Yeah, but for under 6 mil, Desmond gives you a shortstop with hitting, power, speed, and solid defense...which is a pretty sweet deal. Here's a standout performance he had for one of my playoff teams:

I used the Hill/Desmond combo more than any other in this set, especially, like you said, after there was some badmouthing, so he was available. Both had OPS' over .800 for me in the set.

Best card: MAUER - always 300/400, 600+ abs as a catcher, some versatility being able to play first, hits against lefties and can produce in any park, and the price point is excellent. Never ever observed him in the free agent pool.
