To me Cobb would make my top ten list of worst baseball movies. Very little about baseball and more so about a bitter (and insane?) old man, at least as depicted in the movie. Not fun to watch.

Ditto to that!

And because I liked Ronny Reagan and Jimmy Stewart, I always liked their old movie caricatures of "Pete" Alexander and Monty Stratton. Sure, they weren't academy award winners and maybe not too accurate, but interesting to watch and mention!

Buster Keaton's "College". Quite possibly the greatest satire of college sports ever made...and it's almost 100 years old.

I guess I've seen most of those previously mentioned, but my favorites are:

1. A League of Their Own
2. Bull Durham
3. 42
4. Eight Men Out
5. Major League
6. The Natural

I'll pick some old ones. The Joe E. Brown baseball trilogy--Elmer the Great, Alibi Ike, and Fireman Save My Child. Brown later owned the Pirates. Shown every spring on TCM. The Cobb movie was weak, due to it concentrated on the book's introduction and not the whole story. The book itself is great.

I'm surprised that one of my favorite baseball movies hasn't been mentioned. It was the story of the Phillies' double play combination in the early sixties.

It name: The Days of Wine and Rojas.

Good night Strat lovers! I love ya! And don't forget to tip your server.
