Griffey Jr., Is he worth the price?

PostTue Jan 07, 2014 7:02 pm

The 90s are my worst decade as a manager. I have tried several different stadiums, different strategies, but nothing seems to work. I was looking back at the 90s leagues I have been in and what I found striking was that the teams with Ken Griffey Jr. on them seem to perform very poorly. I only saw two teams with above .500 records and only one above 90 victories. Does Griffey Jr.'s high salary make it difficult to field a competetive team or does Griffey Jr. tend to underperform his cards? From what I could see in regard to his performance, he tends to underhit his batting average and OBP, but seems to outslug his home run totals and RBI.

Any insights welcome.

there is only 1 cf i use in the 90s set, whom i will not name, but anyone who knows my favorite team will know who it is....

as for the price on grif, plenty of offense in this set, i don't think any of the high priced players are worth it, this is incredibly different when considering the 60s or 70s 9/10 + mil players

as for success, just nailing the card is not everything. this is the BIGGEST difference between 20xx sets or atg. you have to find a stadium that won't kill your pitching strategy and will promote your offense (having no idea what that will actually be). so putting grif in a pitchers park is dumb, i see tons of people do that.

I can think of two particular 90s teams where i had a 1-9 line-up (4-8 mil per player), all hit best years, in a hitters park, won 70 games if that
