I'll add a personal sidenote to Mickey Lolich. Most Cardinal fans that were around in 1968 remember Lolich's 3 win effort in the Series, winning game 2,5 and 7 after the Cards had a 3 to 1 game lead. Granted, some big gaffes by Brock not sliding at the plate in one of the games (don't remember which) and Flood misplaying the routine flyball in game 7 contributed to that comeback. For all their success, the Cardinals have a pretty dismal record in playoff series where they have a 3 games to 1 lead! But oh yeah - I remember Mickey Lolich! Have him in another league on a franchise Tiger's team. It's the final week and we're a game out. Hope he comes up big in the stretch here!!

One of my favorite baseball memories is from 1968 and the World Series..i didnt care for the Cardinals because when i thought of them i saw Bob Gibson and I really didnt like his demeanor on or off the field..even as a kid. There were several Tiger players i really liked, Kaline, Freehan, Cash and Jim Northrup. I had a nice 2 year run with my WS favorites in 68 and 69, this after the Red Sox lost in 1967, the first World Series i remember following.

Read the following story earlier today...

Dusty Baker received the following advice from Hank Aaron about facing Gibson: "'Don't dig in against Bob Gibson, he'll knock you down. He'd knock down his own grandmother if she dared to challenge him. Don't stare at him, don't smile at him, don't talk to him. He doesn't like it. If you happen to hit a home run, don't run too slow, don't run too fast. If you happen to want to celebrate, get in the tunnel first. And if he hits you, don't charge the mound, because he's a Golden Gloves.' I'm like, 'Damn, what about my 17-game hitting streak?' That was the night it ended."

Hey guys is Spaceman Bill Lee still available? If so I will take him. Doesn't work on a search of course.

Thanks Randy. I was able to jump online before I head to the airport. Hebner was actually part of my next round list of proxies. Candy man is my first pick.
