.45 second time limit live draft 9 pm tonight

PostMon Jan 27, 2014 5:49 pm

I named the league the 1 minute league, but SOM evidently snuck into the picture after reading my other thread and added a .45 second option. Too late to change the league name and it's sad that they can't communicate to even announce their fixes but at least someone is listening at SOM.

This gives all you guys a chance to bail on the 2.5 minute  per pick league.

Well, I have been in 2 live drafts. Drafted TWELFTH BOTH TIMES!! (Up Yours, Hal). First team with 2 minute picks
is mediocre. Second team with 1 minute picks is awful. I don't know if I want to blame the pick times for my atrocious
performance in the second draft but drafting 12th I would take 2 picks at a time and wait - what is it - 22 other team
picks taking all the prospects I had lined up. If I knew I was drafting say 6th I would be glad to try 45 second picks.
But not drafting 12th. Not now anyway. Maybe later.

Hey Quincey:

Now that you have done 2 drafts, I would suggest that you use the draft logs from these drafts (provided under the "Your league" menu). This can be a great tool to speed your decision times as it will give you an idea of where players might go. There should be enough info in the logs to narrow down your search and make quicker decisions.

Just know that every draft is a bit different, especially on how high or low starting pitching goes.

I am hoping Bob shortens the clock to 90 seconds, thats kind of a compromise. I would think you would/should be comfortable at that time limit.

Hey, Uncle Petro. Larkin is a 5th round draft pick? I rate all players according to the stats of their cards and then
compare to the average for their position. Got 2 notebooks filled with numbers. And just think, all for nothing as
I draft a 5th round player first. Tsk,tsk. Well, today I draft ninth. Maybe I will draft a 4th round player first this
time. That would be an improvement.

I was curious enough to go back in the records to see how Larkin did on ATG7 $200m teams of mine.
He was on 19 teams but on 1 he platooned so the numbers below are for the other 18 teams.
He averaged 43 hr's, 124 runs scored and 90 RBI generally batting leadoff.
These 18 teams averaged 86.2 wins per season for a winning percentage of 53.2% and won 4 championships.

This is quite a bit better than teams of mine where he was not on the roster.
And yes, the home parks were suitable to his power like Wrigley 59 but then that is the point, is it not?

Well gramps, I drafted 12th tonight and got a fine team. 12 is one of the better places to draft, if you don't get a top 3 pick. BTW, in the Friday live draft Larkin did go in the 5th round. Tonight he was pick 33. He can usually be gotten even later in 200M drafts. You can fill all the notebooks you want but if you actually played regularly you would see that he doesn't produce anywhere near his price point. But hey, since your notebooks work so well for you, keep on using them, just try not to whine too loudly when you don't like your drafts.

I promise that you will not hear another word from me. I did not use the notebooks much last night. With one minute
intervals I just drafted a power team. It may not win a lot of games but it will hit a lot of homeruns.

Pity. Different voices are cool. Its true you can get Larkin a lot later. Its also true that Petro is a good at LIVE drafts.

But he doesn't have the last word on LIVE drafrts. There are managers who approach the LIVE draft dramatically differently than Petro ever does that have a lot of success. If you try to only match up against Petros preferred approach, you can get buried by managers coming from a completely different direction. As an example, there are some managers that can reach in every round and have really good teams.

Quincy- I wouldn't say that just because you and pet disagree on something is a reason not to speak up-
and I bet (apologies if I am putting words in his mouth) you he would say the same thing because I think he likes a spirited discussion.
I know we don't always agree on players either- especially on guys like Rizzuto for example-
but that's great, b/c then I have to consider weather I have good enough reasoning for my position or weather its me just following what others have said.
