opinions on lineup?

PostSat Feb 01, 2014 4:32 am

I've been debating with myself about a new team, 80 mil, with this possible lineup:

3B Sewell
CF Pinson
1B Suttles
RF Aaron
LF Rogan
SS Appling
2b Herman
C Grote

Forbes 57. Playing with a severely limited player pool. I'd flip Rogan for Suttles vs. LH.

I've never used Pinson ... is he an okay 2 hitter at that cap? Would he be better batting sixth?

I'm not getting the most from Appling's obp -- although I think I have a very strong five through seven.

Most important: am I a fool to use Sewell at third with his crappy def? Along with Appling and Herman -- lots of playable balls going through that IF. But there aren't many alternatives ... Jimmy Collins might be the best available for under 5 mil. I could leadoff Appling and bat Collins 7th.

But the nice thing about Sewell vs. Collins is that he gives me 2.5 mil more to spend on pitching.

I dunno ...

I never used Pinson either but which card are you using, $7.22 or $2.50? Mcgee, Flick and Rousch I've used before but maybe a link to the team would help people get a little more info.

It's the 7.22. Also the 8.90 Aaron and the expensive Appling. Yeah, I'll post a link ... I'm still at pre-waivers, though, and the pitching staff is a disaster.

It's a shuffle league.

I plan to keep Hughson and Blake. If I use Sewell, I should have cash for a couple of 3-4 mil innings eaters in the pen, and a couple of 6-8 mil starting pitchers.

But my concern here is figuring out the lineup and trying to figure out if Sewell is a mistake at 3d. Other 3B are Beckwith, the 9 mil Brett, McGraw, Steinfeldt (6 mil), Madlock (5 mil), both Jimmy Collins, Werber, and a big dropoff to Sewell.

You can't go wrong with Beckwith and of the times I've used Sewell, it was always at DH. I play mostly higher caps so maybe some of the guys that always play 80mil can offer some help for you.

I could get Beckwith, dump Pinson, use Rogan in CF, and get someone like John Stone for LF. That's still a crappy defense all-around ... but a ton of hitting. I think I would have money for a couple of 5-6 mil SPs (maybe!) I don't play much 80 cap anymore either -- and never in a shuffle league. So this is an interesting experience for me.

you might be better off using the cheaper appling/herman as your DP combo- would also use Mcgee before Pinson, but there are other cheaper guys that should give you similar production; also, don't think Suttles gives you enough for the 8 mill- cheaper Sissy is one idea- low cost Carew if you wanna go that way.
Anyway, if you make a couple of those switches Becks becomes affordable, as well as a few others- like say the 6 mill Brett.

Thanks -- but the thing is, none of those cards is available! This is one of those goofy shuffle leagues. Only the expensive Appling, no Sisler, no 6 mil Brett, etc. All of the conventional wisdom goes out the window. ... I guess since it's a unique league, tough to give advice about the team.
