Poll for 2014 Tournament

I have nothing against live drafts but the time thing is the problem. Doing one draft is okay as you can opt out but two is going to force people to try it. I would prefer the Tournament to not be an instrument into introducing live drafts to everyone. If you want to have everyone try it, give everyone a free credit "only to be use on a live draft league". So, my vote is for ZERO (0) live drafts.

Yah, it is problematic I suppose given the varied time constraints of over 100 players.

I also voted for one live draft, although I share the concern of many others regarding time constraints.

The live draft may not work, but we will not know that until we try. If the live draft does not work, it is a guarantee we will not see improvements until we fail. Sorta the "learn by screwing up" approach. (My 2013 Barnstormer teams were a monument to that philosophy).

Possible worst case scenario, you wind up dropping your "live draft" team results if that team winds up with your worst record.

I appreciate all of your comments. If you look at the Live Draft FAQ, it appears that SOM is working on some mods that may be directly aimed at longer drafts like we do in Barnstormers. If we were to find a mod that allow a 2-3 hour time between picks, this may serve our needs better. Agreed that certain features don't compare directly with what we are used to see on Diamond Dope - certainly a weak proxy subset. But with the slowness of DD and the likelihood that the live draft feature in DD will be shutdown in favor of the card reader only - LD fans may ONLY have the SOM app if we are to adopt LD at all. We want to make sure that we don't force anything on the players that may be unwanted, but if we do toss one (or more) events out there, I want to make sure that it works correctly and is suited to a group as large as ours. The logistics are still being worked out. The poll is also important to get a feel for where the group is on the topic in general. Keep your ideas and suggestions coming.

About the live draft for Barnstomers Tourney. Could you have like one live draft per event so if a player wants to join a live draft league they could. There are usually 6 or more league per event right. That way you would not force anyone that didn't what to live draft.

Lost in the panic over being in a live draft is the idea that the leagues can be grouped by time zone - start some leagues at 7 ET, others at 8, 9, 10, or 11. There will also need to be an oddball time for our overseas friends, like 6 AM or the like.

Also, one of the AD's should be a shuffle league. I think 80 DH would be appropriate for that.

Overall, this would provide a much better test of a variety of skills, not who has the largest number of canned teams.

Plus, if they finally see the light and permit time limits in hours rather than minutes, all BS leagues should use that feature. If you guys have never used the live draft feature before, you need to get out of your cocoons more.

I like what kunkel40 said. Similar to the option of playing a $60M league vs a $140M league, you could have one or two events with the option of live draft vs autodraft.
