Ralph Kiner

Just saw a breaking news story that Ralph Kiner passed away today. He was 91 years old.

That's sad.. When I was a kid he was one of my hero's.

A decent man as well.

RIP, Mr. Kiner.

I never knew Ralph Kiner as a player, only as a broadcaster.

I grew up with Kiner's Korner after Met home games on Channel 9. God the Mets were just brutally bad. But Ralph helped you get to know our lovable losers along with introducing us to many of the Mets-slayers. I usually had to beg my parents to watch the Korner after the game.

Great guy. Funny, smart, well spoken.

I'm sure Ronnie, Keith & Gary (Cohen) will have some wonderful things to say about him. Our Mets have usually sucked 9 years out of 10, but our one advantage over our cross town rivals has been our announcers. Theirs have been as bad as the teams we put out on the field.

Anyway, RIP Ralph. You will be missed.

It's very sad. First, Jerry Coleman; now, Ralph Kiner. Both of them were announcers who brought a different perspective to my understanding of the game, and both were extremely decent persons. To me, they were both heroic.

Actually I will just take the point of view that it was a blessing for Mr. Kiner to live until 91.
He obviously left many people with a very positive impression;
and we should all be so fortunate as to do that before we move on.

I too grew up on Kiner's Korner as a Mets fan growing up.

It was cool to see the players still in their uni's after the game.

At that point in the night, Ralph probably had his share of Shaefers or Buds.

Some of his lines still echo in my head...

I also stayed up late as a kid watching Kiners Korner. Very sad now that The last of the Original Mets Broadcasters is in heaven i guess its time they reunite and call one for the ages!! RIP Ralph!!!

The thing I admired most about Kiner and others from "The Greatest Generation" was his service to this country during the dark days of World War II. A grateful nation salutes you.
