Live drafts - I have a confession to make

PostFri Feb 07, 2014 5:58 pm

I admit, I am deathly afraid to participate in a live draft. I was willing to give it a go last week, but all the horror stories have scared me away. Hopefully, not for good.

Second confession, I am also afraid of a $999 million salary cap. I don't know how to play this game if funds are unlimited which means anyone can make as many roster moves as they want without penalty until game 142.

What I'd really like to see is someone compile a list of average draft position for the $999 million drafts that are so popular so I can at least see what everyone else is doing before I wade into shark-infested waters.

Until then, I guess I'll just sit on the sidelines and just be a spectator. Good luck to all -- Casey

Casey, I'd say just jump in and have fun! I'm a first year online player and I wanted to experience a live draft, so I joined one of these ATG leagues(having never played ATG) and had a blast drafting! The draft went off without a hitch. Will my team be competitive? Probably not. Do I like the "unlimited" payroll? Not really. But I did it for fun and I'm having fun.

This is would be an awful thing-
why?
Because the more people that see the same list of where they think guys should go, the more scripted the picks become and the quicker that level of draft will get stale.
This is what happened in ATG6 - you could really start predicting who would be taken, and while there might have been some slight variation, really wasn't much.

The way to learn is to jump in, as some people do, make a ton of mistakes and learn from em.

Is there a post draft list of all teams picks? That would help someone learn where the draft went wrong for them, and accumulate knowledge from that experience, IMO.

When the draft is completed you can view a draft log on under your league page

You need to balance the horror stories with some reality.

The stories themselves comprise all of 3 drafts. The last one got much more write up in the community.

So far I have been in 5 drafts and all 5 worked exactly as they were supposed to.

Edit here: the statement below is incorrect:
Your are not really risking losing your credit, according to the posts they all gave them back.
But you are risking losing the time and emotional investment in participating with the draft.

TSN (when they ran this) used to give bonus credits if something screwed up. Kind of like a bribe to put up with crap.
So people are mad that that went away.
On the other hand, TSN charged more per credit AND placed ads on the site. I miss the free credits for screw ups, but the new price deals and lack of ads for me compensates for that to a large extent. Of course, full disclosure, it wasn't one of my drafts that got screwed up.

WRONGO 216 stitches -
Not a single credit was given back to my knowledge. I had 2 teams recently impacted by Strat-o-screw ups, and in neither case was a credit refunded nor any reasonable response even offered by Strat-o-matic.

my advice is that you are wise to be very wary....I enjoy the game and the community, but realize you are taking a gamble on a faulty product with little recourse nor response when errors occur.

IF there is someone out there who was refunded a credit, please let us know how you managed it.
