Is 90's Biggio broken?

I believe I have Craig Biggio's 96 card based upon the following facts. He has 2 HR's against lefties which I believe rules out his 94 and 2000 cards (both have lefty Power-W). I also rule out the 98 and 99 seasons based upon the fact that he only has TWO doubles through 63 games /251 at bats and for those 2 seasons he hit over 50 doubles. So the 1996 season reveals an OPS of .801 and I'm okay with 24 doubles, 4 triples, and 15 HR's out of my 2nd baseman ...the PROBLEM is that he has gone the last 41 games WITHOUT an extra base hit!!!!! After 63 games and 251 at bats he is hitting .239 with a .347 OBP, a .327 SLG PCT = an OPS of .674 ...all of this while playing home games in a hitters ballpark (Skydome '93) http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/pl ... /90/348315
So I checked the "other Biggio's" through out the Mystery League Tourney and only ONE of them is performing at or above his average card numbers. Is it possible one of SOM's programmers was bullied by Biggio while in high school?

Thought it was just my Biggio. He stinks too.

Of course, he doesn't have his 96 card either.

Your Biggio is having bad luck for sure. However, his 96 card has few extra base hits against right-handers. Even a 1-rated pitcher's card would normally get an extra-base hit (obviously off a pitcher's card) over the course of 41 games, so again, you are having bad luck with Biggio.

Also remember if every single player performed according to their card (assuming average ballparks), then every single player would perform below their stats. In other words, since a hitter is facing much better pitching than he did in real life, his stats will--on average--suffer. Combine this with bad luck for any given player, and his stats will really suffer.

Good point Coyote. I have 1980s Carlton Fisk and his worst card is an OPS of about .778. I have his second worst card which is an OPS of about .793 and he has 37 homeruns in real life on that card. He is currently hitting below .200 with a mid .600 OPS. It's just bad luck out of him, but other guys on my team are performing so it is not the end of the world. I bat Fisk about 7th or 8th and at least he hits some HRs something the rest of my team does not do so well. Still I am about 19 games over .500 with about 30 to play so I am not complaining. Luck plays a big part in this game, and in real baseball.

As far as Biggio goes it is probably just real bad luck because he was obviously a great player with many great cards. Maybe SOM cheated him, somehow, though I doubt it. Or maybe he is having bad Karma for donating money to George W. Bush,...ha ha, just kidding. At least you get great defense and speed out of Biggio no matter how poorly he is hitting. And who knows maybe he will go on a hot streak right when you need him most to balance things out. Good luck.
