Miguel Cabrera Robbed!!!

Must say how does he get negative clutch when he batted .459 with a .612OBA and .934 slugging in 61ABs. SOM must throw darts. :?

Cause clutch in Strat has nothing to do with how a guy performed in clutch situations and everything to do with making sure rbi totals match a players stats. It's virtually impossible for a guy with a great batting average to have positive clutch unless he drove in an ungodly amount of runs.

I knew he'd loose in the clutch well before the ratings guide came out, he has to in order to keep his rbi's inline with his real stats.

Niners I would agree. But when I see Chris Davis with positive clutch it doesn't make any sense to me.

That is odd, but Davis' gain isn't that large, still very odd.

I think it's due to hits on the card. Davis, while having great power, is kind of all or nothing when it comes to hits, while Cabrera (obviously) has a ton of hit chances

Yep, you're right, Miguel has practically a full 10 more points of hits on his card than Davis...

from the Strat WiKi site...

"Clutch hitting measures each player's ability to deliver the clutch hit. Strat-O-Matic's exclusive clutch hitting formula accurately measures every player's ability in these key situations. Traditional clutch hitting stats do not comprise enough situations to make them statistically significant. For instance a batter with 500 at-bats might only hit 110 times with runners in scoring position and perhaps 80 times in "close and late" situations. This total number of at-bats is not enough to truly gauge his clutch hitting ability, because in 190 at-bats a .250 hitter can be expected to swing anywhere between .187 and .313 just as a result of random statistical distribution. Strat-O-Matic's exclusive clutch hitting formula measures the outcome of every baserunner that the batter affected during the year. This detailed approach provides a true measurement of the batter's clutch hitting ability. Our system is implemented with 2 outs and runners in scoring position because in real-life that is traditionally the most difficult time to "come through" with a base hit. If the batter fails, there are no more chances to drive in those runners. Most batters will see their average go down in the clutch -- both in real-life and with our system."

Sounds to me, if I'm reading it right, that Miggy SHOULD be + clutch.

Top 10 "regulars" who should be + clutch (from last years stats)

1. Miggy
2. Revere
3. Craig
4. Holliday
5. Cano
6. Freeman
7. Cruz
8. Lough
9. Chris Johnson
10. Raburn

The way I understand it is pretty similar to what you guys have spelled out above. The clutch/ negative clutch thing was created so the RBI totals for each player within a team, when doing AS PLAYED LEAGUES, would wind up with similar RBI totals as in real life. Here at ON-LINE SOM we do not play MLB teams and we definitely do not do AS PLAYED. Therefor, these clutch ratings should absolutely NOT be used for our purposes. It seems a little ridiculous when players who were clutch in real life are negative clutch in SOM. This is an OPTION and like the WEATHER (another option) it should not be used in on-line draft leagues, period! .... That being said, it does effect very little and I am excited to see the new cards. Well done SOM!
