It would be nice if the site would automatically discard any attempts at second teams. but not the case.

I tried PM'ing the guy with the two teams but he doesn't read them.

Fred,

He's been taken out again and placed into a brand new league. It should not happen again but if it does please let us know.

Sincerely,

That is good news that Strat-O-Matic was so proactive about the problem! It is possible the guy does not know, or understand. One thing I would like to point out, I do not always notice when I have a private message, for whatever reason I sometimes miss it..... Still two teams in one league (unless it is some kind of theme) is a big no no. Do you guys ever worry about one person using two names (I don't want to give anyone a bad idea but), cause in the past I have worried about that, maybe I am just paranoid.

I don't think about that. What I don't like is when someone gives up on a team. They always seem to be in another division wiping out my wild card chances.

i wouldn't be surprised if someone has tried three teams in one Auto league (different user names of course).

Just an FYI so everyone doesn't get too bent out of shape here...

Is it a father letting his son play a team along with him? Is it a guy sharing a league with a co-worker? I played in leagues where this turned out to be the case and nothing extraordinary happened during the course of the season.

How bad can it be? The salary cap is still the salary cap. You can't really run up one team over the other without daily trades that would be easy to spot and easy to stop.

I wouldn't even worry if one manager played 11 teams!

I wish I could be as sanguine as you about this, J-Pav, but (like you I assume) I've played this long enough to remember when having two teams was actually legal...and it could suck. I actually remember one league where there were two teams with the same id who claimed to be a father and a son who had teams in the same division. They kept making lopsided trades--but not lopsided enough to get stopped--with each other that clearly favored the son, and then (once the son had a solid lead) the "father" dumped all his players and tanked it. A bunch of us complained, and the "father" was removed, but the damage was done.

So, yes, there are many ways a player (or two compatriots) using the same id can damage a season for other players. Obviously players can still cheat using two separate id's as well, but at least making two teams with the same id illegal substantially erases cheating possibilities....And if a father really wants to play with his son, it's not too difficult for him to create a separate id for him.

I guess I've just been lucky then. To me, the trades and dumping are obviously the telltale signs, and it's a shame that it went on long enough to distort the league. I thought this would be handled more swiftly.

Still, in the big picture it makes little economic sense to "play" two teams to win two teams, so it seems to me that this wouldn't occur too often. On the other hand, salary dumping absolutely infuriates me and happens way more with little or no consequence. But that's a different issue. :(

J-Pav, that is a good point about a father and son or something of that sort. I tried to get my Dad to play once but he did not get into it. However, I would be worried about one person having more than one team for nefarious reasons. It is not fair and lots of collusion could occur. Some leagues don't have a cap, or if it is a mystery league a guy could figure out his player is on a good season and drop him just to pick him up with another team. There are almost as many cheaters (in life) as ways to cheat. With that said, I don't think it is a problem here. The salary cap helps. :D

I think for the most part we have a pretty decent community here. Every now and then a rock-head surfaces, but overall my experience has been a positive one.

It seems to me that a two-team collusion would just be too much work for the reward. How long could you disguise what you were doing? And how much damage could you actually do to a well-balanced opposing team? My guess is not long and not much.

It would make for a fun league experiment though, just to see what it might look like in real time.

On the other hand, I just finished a league two games back of the wild card. The wild card came from a division with two low pythag 1-2 finishers who beat up on a 50 win last place team who dropped $14 mil in salary (40 players. Yes, 40). This imo, should just not be allowed to happen.
