Setting up a 5 man rotation

when you have a 4 man rotation, it's pretty automatic. You're #1 starter pitches the second to last game of the season, and is ready to go in game 1 of the playoffs. But with a 5 man(all 5 non asterisk, none of your relievers can start), if everyone takes their normal turn all season, you end up with your #3 starter opening the playoffs , and your #2 doesn't start until game 3.
Do any of you guys set your rotations differently to start the season with that in mind?

Steve, that is an excellent question. Are you taking into account the two days off before the playoffs? I often use one pitcher (my ace) that can go on three days rest and the rest who have to have four days rest so it works out a little differently. I am sorry I can not answer your question better.

Well back when we had the 5 game series, it was the perfect thing, as you would want your #1 to go in game 3 preferably.

With a 7 game series, your #1 goes games 2 and 7, and you have your #2 to start the title round.

Or do what I do. Use cheap SP/RP as a specialist and get it to start the last game your ace would pitch, then he can go in game 1.

Or set your rotation to start the season with your #2 then #3 then #1, and profit?

I used to run a 5-man rotation--with two aces--quite a bit in 90s leagues. My philosophy was always to get to the next stage and then worry about it. However, if I could afford to rest my #2 in the last series, that is what I would do. My #1 and #2 (who were close in ability) would simply swap positions in my rotation.

However, if I needed a win to ensure making the playoffs, then I would simply plan to start my #3 in game 1 of the postseason.
