Bigmahon,
Thanks for the response. Actually I have played many fantasy sports with live drafts and they are my favorite part of the season.
Like I said, I'm not opposed to this type of draft in SOM either but its the timing I don't like. None of us have any experience with these cards yet. In fantasy baseball a live draft is much easier. If I have a guy ranked 4th and he goes right in front of me I'm picking the guy I have ranked 5th right behind him. Not so in SOM. I might have a strategy where I think I might get a SS that I want for $6 mil, if he goes there may not be another one near his price that I want. Do I spend more than $6 mil? Maybe my second choice is a bargain guy or a platoon guy for $2 mil...but wait let me see if I can find someone for the other half of the platoon! Now where do I spend the extra money? At what position? My 3rd baseman is off the board too!
Way too much going on, way to many changes in in such a short amount of time for cards we haven't played with yet. I can do it if we were playing 2012 or ATG but we're not. Not everybody, in fact most of us, do not have ratings for these players so it puts us at a HUGE disadvantage from those who do.
In addition this draft IMO will take longer than a fantasy draft with the same time limit. I can guarantee you if it is 2 minutes per pick I will probably take AT LEAST 40 minutes total just for myself where fantasy would take me about 10-12 minutes for the same amount of players and I know I'm not the only one who will need the time. It is not reasonable to expect everyone to have a queue of players at each position in a salary cap league. That would take way too much time with adjusted strategies.
I'm all up for playing and I don't necessarily have the answer other than to say I don't think this is it and I actually would rather do a forum draft than that.
gbrookes,
Thanks for that. That would settle all of our problems nicely if they would actually implement it.
