Corky wrote:Well I hope I'm not one of the guys being referred to in the above post as I am as active or more so than anyone here besides maybe Joe. The reason I haven't officially announced "in" yet is because of the slight chance gbrookes gets a quick response from SOM this week about the 3 hour clock feature. Besides my dislike of a quick draft for the first round with the new cards, I'm not even sure i'll be able to make the few times/days that were mentioned.

I have responded to Bigmahons post rather thoroughly IMO but didn't really get much dialogue back from anyone besides Joe. This isn't a normal start to a season because of the draft issues, so while I would normally agree with Jeeps sentiment I could understand the pause some are showing this go around.

Hey Corky

I'm busy getting Sutter and Hoyt's ready for their next ATG outing. :)

Plus, I'm more than ready to kick butt. I received my 2014 cards last week and I'm set for my f2f SOM tourney in Chicago at the end of May.

Of anyone, I've conducted my portion of the draft on four continents with minimal issues. I'm happy to be back in the States for this season's march back to the playoffs.

Thanks to JTJ for the headsup. Sorry for the slow check in but unfortunately work takes precedence and I've worked 9 days straight :x . Anyways I've just got caught up on this thread and will share my thoughts.

1 - I am sad to hear about the loss of DiamondDope, even though it was slow and annoying at times, it was still a very useful drafting tool, at least in my mind.

2 - I definitely understand and agree with what Corky says. Like Corky I play in live (and auction) drafts for baseball, hockey & football, and definitely agree with his concerns.

3 - Personally I do not want to do a board draft, not because of the length of time involved, but rather it will just be too much work to communicate re: whose picks, who is available, who has what $$ available, etc.

4 - I get where Jeep is coming from. Personally this year I am not chomping at the bit for the new cards, but I definitely have in the past, and I am sure I will again in the future. I am just not that excited about this season, but having said that I am still interested & committed to NLD.

5 - Perhaps the best solution would be for us to play an autodraft league together, and allow those of us who cannot afford the time/$$/luxury to play multiple leagues a chance to get familiar with the cards, and then use the strat live draft applet on a date that is convenient for the majority.

I personally have not used the draft applet with SOM so I am not familiar with its pros and cons. I would assume it has the ability to set a draft list at least, even if we cannot do a more complex proxy list (like with DD)?

Hopefully we'll be able to resolve this issue, as it would be a shame to see NLD end. All things come to an end but it does not feel like it is time for NLD to stop.

2 other quick notes

1 - Now that I know 2013 is up and running I'll do my best to check in on a daily basis, and see what we can decide upon

2 - I am more interested in this season now that I've had a quick glimpse at the player set. :) However my playing capability will remain likely at NLD and the occasional autodraft league for the time being. I do miss those days when I used to play 30-40 teams a year, but que sera sera.

Thanks for checking in AT. 8-)

I can't ever imagine an NLD autodraft, to be honest. Just feels dirty.

I've inserted my interpretation of your comments above. Please chime in if I got it wrong.

East
JAMESZIMMER - out
Jeepdriver - In
bigmahon - In if we don't board draft
joethejet - IN

Central
durantjerry
gbrookes - IN
BigAlric - IN
Semper Gumby - IN

West
Stoney18 - IN
nythawk129921
ArrylT - IN
Corky - IN with reservations

So, the "no shows" are Hawk and DJ. How should we proceed. I'm OK with whatever. I do think that you need to be commited to participating in the NLD more than just showing up when prompted for the drafts. Especially when it takes multiple "pings". I would, however, hate to see anyone go.

Sounds to me like we have to try to use the new system. Corky, I know you have your reservations as do I, but I don't see any other viable solution at this point.

As for those that haven't registered a preference on type of draft I would say "silence is consent". In other words they don't care.

I guess we need to do the following:
1. Find a replacement for Zim
2. Figure out what DJ and Hawk are up to
3. Find a date once we have 12 manager.

I will ping Smokey, Niners, keyz and Silver to see if they want back into the NLD. Are you guys seeing any other old-time NLDers on the boards that might be interested? If not, we'll need to look for some new blood that is interested in participating in the boards and the draft.

Thoughts?

I'm in a couple of keeper leagues with Hawk. I'll see if he's still in...

DJ is absolutely the worst culprit for not checking in and also slowing down the draft. It's a pattern, it's all the leagues I've been in with him.

No mean to offend, and I also don't like replacing people, but someone who is committed and has time to be committed sure would be nice.

Sorry for the slow response on my part all,but I am in way too many keeper leagues so dont generally respond too much on the boards this time of year except to post my picks in the various leagues. I am in as always(unless you want some new blood because I know mine seems to get older by every passing season ;) ) and would also prefer a live draft to doing it on the boards.I might not respond much but do read the posts but have made sure that I didnt hold up the drafts when we were on DD at least :)

Finding a date

Guys,

I am in whatever format we're playing, but will be on a cruise from 3/9 to 3/16 and don't know if I'll have internet access during that time span.

Welcome nythawk!

You also need to check in for the 24 team TKL, with the Turtle.
