Finals Seeding, Timing

PostSat Mar 08, 2014 7:54 am

Here is the seeding for the finals (!):

1. qksilver69 424
2. J-Pav 406
3. Knerrpool 404
4. karphenry 397
5. DERRICKSANSON 395
6. ROGGIE 393
7. Terry101 392
8. Stoney18 391
9. Spider 67 387
10. mesquiton 379
11. teamnasty 376
12. TomSiebert 375

The finals are $80 million cap, with DH, 20% drop penalty.
**PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FINALS WILL BE USING THE UNLEASHED PLAYER SET.**

As commissioner, I am setting the following live drafts to take place on threads on this forum:

-round 1 - live draft of ballpark, no duplicates within the finals, and no duplicates for players with their parks from events 1-5 or the semifinals;
-rounds 2-5 - live draft of top 4 player picks for each team, 48 players drafted in this way. Non-serpentine - i.e. the draft order repeats itself by seeding in each round.

This will be followed by the auto draft. EDIT UPDATE (in quotes) - "We will list the drafted 4 players in spots 22-25, and the auto draft picks in spots 1-21. Our resident experts tell me that that is the way to do it. I understand that strat's auto draft logic is such that the players listed in the 22-25 spots essentially are completely protected in the auto draft process."

Question for the finalists:

Do you want to:

(A) wait till your semi-final playoffs are resolved, or

(B) do you want to start the limited live draft on the boards as soon as we can, before your semifinal playoffs are done?

Please let me know by response to this post.

I have some practical suggestions for the finalists, from my own experience with live drafts -

Set up a team on strat, as though you were going to auto-draft. Develop your plans and strategies for that teams as you would normally. Consider what ballparks are available to you (no repeats from events 1-5 or the semifinals), and which ballparks will be your top choices for this team. Remember that the first round of the live draft is for ballparks only, and that there are no duplicate ballparks among the 12 finalists, either. So develop a series of back-up, alternate choices for ballparks for your finals team.

Then, ask yourself which of your drafted players are most important to you and your team. Consider making those players your 4 picks in this limited ballpark draft. Ask yourself who your alternate player picks would be, if you can't get each or any of those top 4 picks. This is how I would do my draft (if I was in it - just kidding about the crying symbol - I'm still enjoying this thoroughly, even though my team is now eliminated! :) ).

Or, as an alternative strategy for player picks, make a list of your top 48 choices for player picks, in order. If one of those players is picked by someone else, drafting ahead of you, then just strike them off your list. I prefer the team plan approach described above, but the perspective described in this paragraph would also help you to identify sleeper picks that no-one is making!

Hope this helps!
Geoff

Recommend we list the drafted players LAST on our cards (as per the usual).

I'm ready to go any time and vote "B". As a personal aside, I'm in Santiago, Chile right now and will be traveling home Wednesday evening until Thursday morning. The most impatient person with live drafting is me, but I would ask for just a little latitude if we're still drafting by then.

I concur with JPav. Let's start the live draft now, but we should give people timing latitude if they check in on these threads with a particular need for flexibility.

J-Pav, I've heard Jeep say too that they way to do it on the auto draft is to list your protected players last on the auto draft cards. I'll go with the experience of you two guys on that. I understand that there's a strong argument that that's the way to do it, based on strat's auto draft logic. We'll list the protected players last. I've updated my previous post.

Re lattitude in timing for draft picks - YES, latitude all the way for this draft. As long as everyone makes best efforts to keep the draft moving - but TAKING THE TIME YOU NEED TO MAKE A GOOD PICK, I'm all for latitude for timing, and I'd like to say no clock for all of the picks.

So far it's 4 votes in favor of starting the finals live draft as soon as possible, zero votes for waiting.

In favor so far:

karphenry (on another thread here)
DERRICKSANSON (on another thread here)
J-Pav
teamnasty
